What would you do?

Nobody else can help in the preparation. It all has to be on you, from the killing to the butchering and cooking. You cannot just go to the supermarket or a restaurant to buy or order meat.

I would go without. I wouldnt kill or butcher just to feed myself. A living pig is not food but bacon is food. I could literally be on a pig farm and wish there was bacon or ham around to eat.

This isn't a morality theoretical. Its a practicality theoretical. We literally pay people to do these things for us because otherwise it would take a significant portion of our time.

As long as I was taught how to, I would. I most likely wouldn't take pleasure in killing it. But I need food. I would have to kill them or I would die.

EDIT: I would probably go vegetarian. I live in the middle of the city and it would be a huge pain in the ass to even get to any animals.
Maybe I would catch a fish here or there and just clean it and fry it. But that would be about it.

I don't think they're saying it healthy. I think they're saying that most people are lazy. Which is true. I can see like maybe half the population growing produce. Maybe more. I can also see a bunch that were growing produce fucking it up, as well...

I would eat little less meat probably, but a good percent of what I eat now comes from animals I have killed and butchered myself.

I would probably raise chickens and would eat more fish too. I don't have room to raise very many cows, so I would eat a lot less beef

I think everyone that eats meat, should kill an animal and eat it at least once in their life. Gives you a newfound appreciation for not only the animals that provide resources, but the system in place that allows people to be disconnected with the animals being killed for their consumption.

Pass. Not because I don't have the stomach for it, but because that's a lot of fucking work. I'm fine eating pizza with veggie/fruit toppings instead if it comes to this.

Like I have to butcher all meat I eat from now on? That would be a huge pain and the ass. I dont exacly live on a farm and have the means to do that sort of thing.

But I don't have a problem doing it once. I helped a friend who has a farm kill and clean chickens once. And I've always said people who eat meat should have to kill atleast one animal they ate. We have a very weird detachment about where our food comes from in the US

There's an interesting disconnect with many or even most meat eaters that nevertheless couldn't kill an animal because it would be too distressing for them.

It's a (imo) valid criticism of meat-eaters, that we're too far removed from the suffering of animals and that we're not taking responsibility for the damage/harm/welfare of animals.

I disagree. But for like a lot of reasons. One, I'm a bad shot (well, average compared to many other people, I guess). Two, I'm lazy and don't want to get up to go hunting. Three, it's usually cold during many hunting seasons, and I don't do cold. Four, for me personally, I don't have time with all the work I have to do. Five, I feel like after all the hunting and prepping, I'd just want to sleep. Probably other reasons, as well... Also, I'm just lazy...

I wouldn't eat much bread if you applied the same rules. I wouldn't eat many fruit or vegetables either. Certainly would never have dairy again
