Do you watch movies/shows with subtitles?

I mean like, by default. My parents just started turning them on for everything...and theyre damn annoying. Ruins the experience of watching the material a bit in my opinion.

Hope I never go deaf and need subtitles one day...that would suck ass.

Used to when I was younger and watched english movies/shows, since it's not my first language. But not anymore.

Sometimes but not always. I watch a lot of stuff on my tablet with one earphone in (so I can still talk to people in the room) so subtitles help.

Yes

I have poor hearing and too many movies have the dialogue volume too low.

For some foreign films, yes. I like to hear the actor's true voice depending on the language.

Just anime but honestly I prefer dubs since I can have it on in the background.

I've watched a handful of foreign films though.

Always. It sucks to miss important dialogue because of thick accents or the characters talking softly or something.

I do on certain british tv/movies because a lot of the actors speak a little mumbly/quickly and its hard to miss details.

This. Also a lot of fantasy and sci-fi shows have weird ass names and locations that would be confusing in a sentence if I can't see the individual words spelled out.

I said yes before I read your post. I watch foreign films with subtitles. I do not use them if they're speaking a language I understand because I am not hard of hearing.

If I can'tmakeoutwhattheirsaying because somebody mumbled through their line or if my ear just doesn't want to pick up on what they're saying because it's stilted movie dialogue where the words are arranged in a manner that isn't normal for conversation in English.

I don't really have a go-to line of dialogue as the example of the latter, but there are plenty of times where I've thrown on subtitles only to have a, "That's what he was saying?" response.

I do at home because movies and TV shoes have this awful habit of turning the volume down to nothing when you actually need to hear what's going on and then up to infinity million when it's an action scene and I'd rather it not wake up the Viscount.

I also feel like when subtitles are on, you miss a LOT of whats actually going on in each scene. Youre so focused on the text that you miss the cinematography significantly.

In my case, I've been doing it out of habit for years so it all kinda blends together. I don't find myself looking down so much as I'm just looking at the screen as a whole.

You kind of learn to see the whole screen the more you watch films with subtitles. It takes maybe a couple minutes to get used to.

For the most part I don't watch them. When I am over at my parents and we are watching something, we do hav them on. Honestly some times it is really helpful and nice to have them on. There are a few shows I will watch with them on at home. But 99% of the time, I don't have them on.
