I really don't think any of them actually get what makes people support politicians like Sanders or even a Trump. Trust in the media, trust in the establishment parties, trust in Hollywood, all of these things are at an all time low in this country. And with social media putting everyone in contact with another with a few clicks we're at a time where it's not just one person saying "Hey I think this is bullshit", it's mass swaths of people thinking such. Now, both Sanders and Trump absolutely are not the same type of person or anywhere near it, nor do they advocate for the same things, and Trump absolutely preyed on the fears of people while "otherizing" individuals and groups, but the reason why both of these people have such huge followings that will fight for them is because they, to their followers, actually feel like "real" people. Now, I think Trump is a 2 bit conman grifter who doesn't believe 90% of the bullshit he spews, but that doesn't matter, as long as it feels real to his followers they will go to the grave with him.
