It's not as fun as the first one imo, mostly because of combat and talent system changes, but it's still good. It's a lot bigger, too.

The microtransactions were blown way out of proportion, especially considering they did absolutely nothing to help you in the game unless you really wanted to build the perfect orc captain by hand, which basically only mattered for online stuff

It was very fun

It was pretty fun but I thought it was a bit bloated. The first one is pretty bare bones though so I guess it depends on the angle of your particular dangle.

The biggest flaw with the game is that the final of the game's four acts is very tedious and grindy. That's why the microtransactions were such a big issue, because people mistakenly believed you had to purchase them to make the final act less grindy. It likely didn't make much of a difference.

They did make the final act a bit more bearable in an update later on, but ultimately it's not worth doing unless you really enjoy siege defenses. The story essentially ends at the end of Act 3. Act 4 just has one final cutscene at its end.

It's probably best to just treat Act 4 as a sandbox. You have all the abilities by then, so you can mess around with the Nemesis system and build up your armies.

The best story missions are the ones that utilize the Nemesis system/branding orcs.

The microtransactions were frankly never a problem, but the final act was intentionally designed to be tedious (which fits storywise, but it isn't fun to play).

Gameplay wise it's better than the first with some annoyances (the you can't brand this guy because his level is too high/betrayals happen inconsistency being prominent ones)

While the nemesis mission are cool, the main story is frankly pretty awful (although I do enjoy the final part of the last cutscene) and if you are a Middle Earth fan the deviations will bother you, and this is from someone who legitimately enjoyed the first game's plot.

My buddy was playing it today, and we were talking about it today. Started talking about how Shelob was hot, but then had to pause because we weren't if she still a spider just doing an illusion or if she was actually transforming.

It's pretty good, yeah. Basically an improvement over SoM in most ways, other than, perhaps, making it harder to do executions. That'll probably be a small trade-off for prospective players, though.

It made no difference, namely because the biggest reason to use the marketplace, new orcs, was undone by the total meat grinder that is the Shadow Wars. Captains are coming and going by the truckload by that point so there's just as little reason to buy orcs as there is to spend time strengthening the ones you start with, because they'll all be dead and replaced with whatever mooks you branded in the last siege.

I think it was intended to grant single players the experience of doing online sieges, but like you said it's just long and boring and makes you just want to YouTube the ending because it's not like there's even a final boss to work up to.

But anyway yeah I loved War. In Mordor you were basically Batman with mind control powers, but in War, after a certain few upgrades and weapon/armor perks, you become a force of nature.
