When you think about it, it's absolutely horrific that millions of animals are bred and imprisoned in nightmarish conditions solely to be slaughtered en mass every day.

On the other hand, people need to eat, and the vast majority of us don't have the time, skill, and/or resources to farm our own meat.

The only meat I eat is chicken. I especially refuse to eat seafood because I love sea amimals and fish are literally going extinct and dying off. I get so uncomfortable and emotional seeing dead fish. I wish I could go vegan but I think it's unhealthy for someone like me who is already very underweight.

No one needs meat seven days a week and three meals a day. People don't need to cut it off entirely; merely reducing intake would be a step in the right direction.

We depend on meat not only for food, but for jobs. What you're suggesting is eliminating meat consumption which would destroy many, many, many jobs. Not only that, but some meats, in moderation, are good sources of nutrients that we need.

There are other ways to get the nutrients we need, and even lessening the amount of meat people eat drastically would go a long way to help.

And yes, it would put people out of a job. But guess what, so does moving away from coal etc. But just means people need to move with the times and get new skills. We can't continue to practise things that are harmful just because people would need get new training/different jobs.

Something has to die or be exploited so you can live. Be it animals or plants. That's the reality. That's nature.

Just cut back on meat and food consumption in general and then we'd move to a better situation for everyone.

They will lose their jobs to automation sooner or later anyway. And they can learn to work in the replacement industries just as easily, or plenty of other fields.

Yes, it's unfortunate people will need to lose their jobs but people said the same thing about slavers and various other things we consider abhorent now. It's always been a shit excuse and simply used as a reason to not allow change/progress and it's been ignored in the past. People got over it then and they will now.

It's amazing that the new precedent is now "you don't need X number of Y!" Or "you don't NEED Z!"

Last I checked, this was America. Land of the free. All these restrictions is too much government. What's next? Uncle Sam is now lecturing me what I can or can't eat for dinner! Uncle Sam is lecturing legal firearm owners that they don't deserve to protect their property and family. Uncle Sam wants to tax everything that isn't "necessary" according to some guy in Washington D.C.

With all due respect, you're so blinded by the idea of climate change, you're failing to realize how you're hurting people. Leave your inner city and take a trip to Georgia. Take a trip to Kansas. Take a trip to Venezuela and take a look how that all developed. Gain a fresh perspective.

Isn't this why we left the tyranny of Great Britain? Too much government up our ass? Now we want to bring it back?

Eating meat in the current system is definitely immoral. But eating meat most of the time would be immoral. There are a few corner cases where it's not bad (like if you have a pet lama that dies of old age and you eat the remains that's fine) but otherwise I don't understand why people find it so hard to just admit they do something immoral because they enjoy it

the meat industry is an inefficient source of calories for the population. most of our farmland is used for livestock so that they can eat so that we can eventually eat them. the most efficient way of handling the world's nutritional needs is to cut out the animals entirely. we would use way less land and crops

Silly? It's arguably even worse. Go see what goes on in slaughterhouses before you post again. Slaves had it good compared to what these animals go through. Incoming "how dare I compare the life and treatment of a cow or pig to that of a human!" Regardless, there will come a point in history when humans are like "wtf were we thinking utilizing slaughterhouses." It obviously won't be when you and I are still alive. But there will be change at some point in time.
