The entire game is online unless you only play levels you make for yourself...

You can create your own levels all you want in MM2. But to download levels or upload other people's levels, you need online. It's really needed to get the most out of it.

Nintendo's online is the cheapest of the 3 (compared to Microsoft and Sony), but it has the least amount of features. It has been improving lately, especially in match making. It was becoming routine to play people with shit connection speed on Smash Bros. I hardly played at all because it was almost impossible. Now it's very rare and can be fun

Edit: I botched my first MM level so bad. I had it about done, then said it needed fixing, ruined it and then I just restarted the whole damn thing

Steam has free online play. So, why get a multiplat game and pay for online when he can get online for free through steam?

At least, I think thats his line of thinking...

If I had a large library of multiplayer games on the Switch, that would warrant paying for the online... but now, there's no reason to start at all - just stick with the single player Switch games and play CounterStrike or Dota if I wanna play multiplayer.

Thing is, Mario Maker levels ARE single player, but you need online to get the levels... so wasn't sure if needed payment or not.

There are plenty of fun games that would warrant the paying for online. Though, it depends on what you like. Though, $20 for a year isnt really breaking the bank. And if you have any friends, it could be even cheaper for a full year...

Make sense. $20 isn't a year isn't too bad really. I have MM2, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that are online. I think Link's Awakening has online for the dungeon creator, but I haven't tested it.

I can understand why you don't want to get online as you don't have a lot of games for it

as usual? Shut the fuck up, dude! Haha. We havent even talked about something like Nintendo online in months. So, its not like its an everyday thing.

Also, Im sorry if not shitting on Nintendo 24/7 somehow offends you. I like them, so yeah, Ill defend them over stupid arguments that people are constantly. Its a simple concept, though. While it may not be the best service, it works well enough. And its not only the cheapest of the three, but its just cheap altogether. Its not like Im the only one who uses it. Many on this site use it. And it seems to work fine for many users...

The one game that would be worth it for me is Monster Hunter, but why pay for it when I have it on the 3DS for free... or World on Steam

That's a shame, on Steam we could play Contra 3 together

That's fine. I haven't tried out star fox 2 yet. They need to update more often than once every 5 months though.

Broadly, pretty much anything that isn't F2P requires the subscription to play online. F2P games fund their own servers, so they don't get in on the subscription fee. I'm sure some exceptions exist, but that's a reasonable generalization to work from.
