When they were making Blue Harvest they sent it to Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill to ask if they would do promotional stuff for them.

They thought Hamill would be game because he had done voice work for them in the past but surprisingly instead Fisher apparently was receptive but Hamill was furious because of this joke which he took personally:

https://youtu.be/LBs1kb8P70k?t=55

He then refused to work with them again and it soured their relationship. They considered taking the joke out but the damage was already done so they left it in.

Always stuck with me as odd that because it wasn't even like nasty attack or anything just a goof.

According to the Family Guy creators yeah and they have no reason to lie about it.

Although I don't think Mark Hamill ever commented on it because why would he?

Family Guy makes fun of everyone. Only an idiot would be upset at the writers or the show.

That's kinda the thing with comedians and comedy shows, if you get mad at something they do they'll mock you even harder South Park especially does it

Was on the audio commentary on the DVD.

If you have the DVD then put it on and skip to the scene. I can't find footage with the audio commentary online. I can't even find good footage of the scene online.

I mean, I can't blame him for taking exception to being told he didn't have a career after Star Wars. His second biggest role is the Joker in a cartoon show. Beloved by fans, sure, but not a high bar where the Hollywood standard is set.

It looks like he did the right thing in trying to market himself after Star Wars, but was ultimately unsuccessful:

It's a shame. He is a good actor. With the right role or two, he could've broken away from typecasting. It seems he just didn't get a fair chance.

Everybody jokes that Star Wars ruined everybody's (except Ford's) acting career. This can't be the first time Hamill heard that line.

What I'm saying. CE makes his Joker role out to be a big deal, but that Family Guy clip perfectly represents how nobody else gives a shit about it lol

That's probably why it hurts to much. He probably consoles himself with the fact he's an amazing voice actor even though only a small number of nerds recognize him for it and no one else really cares.

It's all he has left, especially after this most recent joke of a Disney trilogy.

It retroactively made his entire character worse and pretty much a pathetic loser when you put the series in context.

Never understood why this board thought that voicing the Joker is the same level as playing Indiana Jones.

... am I the only one who thinks that maybe the writers and the people making the commentary were the ones who were taking things too personally?

I'll bet Mark just said something like, "That isn't funny", in a literal way. Then the writers and such were like, "Oh wow, Mark Hamill can't take a joke!" when... he did fucking Cock-Knocker. He doesn't take himself seriously at all. He probably thought their joke wasn't funny and they were surprised about that.

Wasn't the writers who brought it up , it was producer Kara Vallow who at the time was handling liaisons between Family Guy and Celebrities, Studios , Copyright holders.

She said the joke pisses Hammil off and he refused to work with them again (He had done voice work with them before)

I don't see any reason for her to be lying or exaggerating

It's understandable that a joke at someone's expense can simply catch them on the wrong day and cut them to the core, even if they've shouldered the same joke or some variation thereof a hundred times before. Family Guy has a long history of particularly mean-spirited digs at celebrities, so it's not surprising that they burned a few bridges over the years.

Yeah this definitely seems kind of exaggerated by the Family Guy staff after looking into it.

Hamill only had done a single episode cameo during a cutaway joke on FG prior to this so it's not like he was doing a ton of work for them then stopped. And even after this he made a cameo on The Cleveland Show in 2011 and American Dad just last year. All three shows are worked on by MacFarlane's production company.

So yeah doesn't really seem entirely accurate as he just doesn't do much work for them to begin with.

No shit.

Still worked on by the same production company and some of the same staff.

And like I said, he'd done a grand total of one voice for them prior to the Star Wars special.

Somehow I'm guessing they're exaggerating how mad he was.

Kara Vallow

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara_Vallow

American television animation producer who works with Seth MacFarlane on the four animated television series produced by Fuzzy Door Productions for Fox, Family Guy, American Dad!, The Cleveland Show

Vallow was at one time responsible for three half-hours of programming on Sunday nights: Family Guy, American Dad!, and The Cleveland Show

And hey, she was producer on both AD and TCS when Hamill was on them, including the specific episodes he was on. But I'm the one that's reaching.

Face it dude, she's exaggerating on the DVD. Or you are, which frankly seems likely given your gimmicks.
