Most of the people clamoring for any given character probably won't actually end up playing them enough to justify the purchase cost even if they do get in. A token Classic run and a few Vs. matches to try them out, sure, but unless the playstyle clicks or the character's stupidly overpowered, they're going to go back to whoever they already liked.
