https://opencritic.com/game/8821/dragon-ball-z-kakarot/reviews

77 average through 10 reviews so far. Review codes didn't actually arrive until Tuesday so some publications are taking more time before they actually review it for such a long RPG.

General consensus seems to be it's a good game that's rough around the edges due to just how massive it is (40 hours to beat, 100 hours if you do everything). The biggest complaints are the frequent load times and the first hour where it's tutorial are heavy with explanations and light on gameplay. However once the game lets you loose to freely explore the areas the game truly shines with lots to check to check out and and a combat system that is fun and engaging. It does seem to be getting scored lower for "being the story of Dragon Ball Z again" so how you feel about that particular aspect of the game may affect how you feel about the game as well.

The Sixth Axis - 7/10
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot displays unparalleled care and respect for the iconic story arcs it adapts. The original music is there, original Dragon Ball characters return, and pivotal moments are gorgeously animated. If these were stories being presented in video game format for the first time, it would be a mind-blowing experience. Unfortunately, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot doesn't push the envelope enough to warrant sitting through the Cell Saga for the umpteenth time and seeing Frieza get obliterated yet again. If you've played a Dragon Ball Z game before, you've basically played this one.

Areajugones - 8.5/10
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a huge step forward in the titles centered on the narrative of Akira Toriyama, and although there are moments that manage to live up to the original anime or even exceed it, the general feeling does not end up being so voluminous.

Hobby Consolas - 8.5/10
A true gift to any Dragon Ball fan that works really well as an open world ARPG. It's not without flaws, but its length and dynamics are a safe bet.

Windows Central - 3.5/5
Overall, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a good game, but it may not appeal to everyone. If you've seen the anime series, you know what to expect already. This can make the entire game seem a bit dull because there are no surprises. However, if you're looking for an experience where you can relive the best Dragon Ball Z moments and get immersed in an open world with varying environments then you should pick it up.

Gameblog - 8/10
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the best way to play through the entirety of DBZ's story. No other Dragon Ball game even comes close when it comes to immersion. While imperfect (the frequent and long loading screens are a pain for example), the game is a must have for any fan who has ever dreamed of living in the Dragon World.

I guess we'll see how it goes once all the big american review sites start weighing in. My prediction was a 78 so we're currently one off.

Also to my understanding the game is getting a day 1 patch so complaints like the load times may or may not be fixed

I'm installing my copy now and it has a 6.68GB patch. Whether that's the day one patch or not, I dunno, seeing as it's not day one yet.

Also as I've said many times before Personally for me this is the game I've always wanted ever since playing legend of a super saiyan on the super famicom

The one thing I always wanted was a DBZ RPG that actually covered the entire story in 1 game and they were never able to do it until now

Yeah but the game seems riddled with needless systems, a sub par fighting system, and from that quick look alone they seem to skip a lot of the story just to get to major moments :/

I was hoping to love this game but it just seems so packed with filler. Which is appropriate I guess :/

I think you need to go in with the mindset that this is going to be a slow paced game. I'm just taking my time exploring and doing the sidequests from the NPCs as I find them until I have nothing else to do then I"ll go to the next story mission

Picked up the collector's edition, the statue and steel-case are great but the artbook might be about the worst I've seen.
You get a kind of interesting character relation chart and then a short book full of screenshots and character renders. Not even like interesting behind the scenes renders, just what they look like in game.

I also like that your level, stats and skill tree progress all still gets calculated together into an overall power level

I have nba2k19 and while I enjoy aspects of it, it's very obvious how disgusting of a company 2k is with the way some things are implemented in it and how little effort was put into it.
