Dante switches between multiple different weapons, so he's not strictly a sword user.

It's a shame there are no popular western video game characters other than Banjo, otherwise we wouldn't need so many Fire Emblem characters to fill the gaps.

That's... exactly what I said. Actual clones (that is, Marth/Lucina/Roy and Ike/Chrom) play the same (there's some room for debate around Roy in his SSBU incarnation, but we'll put that aside), the rest are unique.

I think the Fighter's Pass order should've been

1. Joker
2. Byleth + 3. Terry
4. Hero
5. Banjo & Kazooie

People are going to complain about 8 Fire Emblem characters no matter what, so it's best to get Byleth's reveal out the way early and pair them with another character.

I mean, your initial point was suggesting that a different character would have been more sensible because they wouldn't play like the existing FE characters, so dialing that back to "only half of the existing FE characters play like each other and Byleth isn't going to be one of them" kind of eviscerates your position.

It really doesn't. The whole point of this topic and my point is; we have so many options to choose from that would be exciting and unique, yet they keep going fire emblem sword person route.

Like not even other lords who use other weapons ir fan favorites. Just sword boys

And Robin, Corrin, and now Byleth demonstrate that "Fire Emblem sword person" can also manage to be exciting and unique. For that matter, even Ike was a substantial departure from Marth/Roy's playstyle (which was really weird given that Ike was generally quite fast in FE9/10, but that's another matter). Each Smash has ended up adding an FE character with a playstyle that differs significantly from the others (SSB4 technically added 2, counting DLC, and we have to either count new DLC or disregard old DLC to say that U added one), as much as people like to distill them down to "sword boys" as though they aren't as distinct from each other as from anyone else in the roster.

Does that mean the game needed another FE character? No. Does that mean you have to want another FE character? No. Is there a disproportionate number of FE characters in Smash? Yes (though the series is extremely character-rich, so there's an argument to be made that it isn't actually that disproportionate). But none of these mean "it's just another 'fire emblem sword person'" is in any way a valid criticism of the new character. You can watch the reveal trailer for yourself: Byleth's moveset is no less unique and interesting than that of any other character. Acting otherwise is so obviously wrong as to completely undermine whatever legitimate complaints you might have.

They do indeed, but I can blame that on the fact that player-inserted avatar characters tend to have more variability in how they can be built (by virtue of being avatar characters that can be built according to the player's will), while lords with a more concrete identity tend toward being Marth 2.0. There's no reason the series couldn't produce another Hector, but until it does (and honestly, "it would encourage them to put a more interesting character into Smash" is a pretty flimsy reason for FE's development team to do such a thing, as much as it'd be nice), I'd agree with Sakurai's apparent decision that the player characters make for more interesting, unique fighters.
