Oops my bad it purged in the insanity of this board once contest started

Over the past 11 months I've been slowly chipping away at Fire Emblem Fates (All 3 Versions) and I wanted to do a ranking of the characters that graced my 3DS screen for 100+ hours. Some of these characters I met once, others I've met 3 times and have married off to three different husbandos or waifus....so I've spent a lot of time with a majority of these characters.

-By usefulness for me (I know almost all characters can get broken especially with the Dread fighter and Dark Falcon classes)

The Game Part
I figured why not let users who want to play along guess my top 25 characters from this lot. You get a point if they are in the top 25, and you get 5 points if you guess CharacterX would be in 24th

Logicblade: 1. Sakura (ok not actually, but I'm just hoping she ranks high)
SantaRPidgey: Zola (zola for cyl4), Felicia, Midori, Benny (Benny is such a great character, that other characters get better in their support with him), Male Kana, Velouria, Izana
Zylothewolf: 1: Niles, Benny too., I also like Elise, Orochi, Forrest and Beruka. And Kaden, he looks so fluffy. Kitsunes are cool., yeah, Peri for last place. She is so badly written.

52nd Nyx

Nyx is the classic I'm immortal but I look extremely young character that Fire Emblem rolls out. Heres the thing Nyx really doesn't even feel believable in her claims in most dialogs. She just seems like an angsty girl with a vivid imagination more than a cursed older woman. But further digging in the game shows shes much older than Corrin (big whoop) but still decently young. Her best convos come with Xander. But there isn't much to this character even her ending is rather generic. Nyx had the potential to be extremely interesting, oh and shes terrible in battle.

Oh speaking of Nyx. Nothing about the character in terms of personality, but there's two things I just don't understand why they did.

1. She's the reason that people shouldn't all have the same outfit for their class. She has the same lingerie looking outfit as everyone else, despite her body. Why? They gave Hayto a custom outfit so he wouldn't have his chest out, but Nyx gets the same see-through outfit....
2. She could have been a little person(That's the proper term, right?). Would have been something we never saw before in a Fire Emblem before. Nope! Another pre-pubescent little girl that's secretly older than you are! Wearing something age inappropriate. Why Japan? .

But yeah, holy shit it was impossible to train her. Too squishy to survive more than one round of combat, and despite a 60% growth rate in speed it just seemed like she could never double anything she needed to. Aren't Dark Mages supposed to be somewhat bulkier? Fucking Elise took hits better. Elise!

51st Hayato

Hayato is pretty awful, like Nyx hes a really lame mage. All the mages in this game kinda suck really. Also like Nyx he is very much the young character who demands they are an adult trope. Hayato has very little to offer in dialog, his competition with Orochi is mildly interesting but he suffers from "every marriage is creepy syndrome". His most redeeming quality is his friendship with Fuga.

50th Forrest

Can I just ignore everything between him and his father and just focus on the fact that Forrest kinda is boring? He's timid and therefore almost every sentence must include several "...". Some characters even rightfully so kinda mock him for this. Hes destined to be in the world of art, its clear cause it certainly isn't battle.

Also Hayto x Mozu might not be so bad, in the sense they look roughly the same age and you can mentally go "Yeah, they didn't do anything until they were 18+" Course that still involves pushing two children together and going "Go bang in a couple years." .

Though really Fates should have just had the child characters have their own postgame adventure. It's not problematic at all if the shota character has a child when the game advanced XX amount of years and they're an adult. Time travel only really made sense in Awakening....

Though really Fates should have just had the child characters have their own postgame adventure. It's not problematic at all if the shota character has a child when the game advanced XX amount of years and they're an adult. Time travel only really made sense in Awakening....

I would have rather they did a post game adventure and i had to piece together who was the son/daughter of who. Instead of carrying over the mechanic from awakening that made 0 sense here

Looping back to Nyx, tbqh the most infuriating thing may actually be how her entire character throws out the idea that "hey this kind of curse is a thing that can happen in this setting" and on one talks about it/revisits it/cares.

I guess in the most peripheral sense you could say the "curse" at the crux of the Invisible Kingdom is kinda in the same ballpark but let's not talk about that.

Aw I like Forrest. Little straight guy who likes fashion and likes to be pretty. Compared to Oboro, I really feel like his love of clothing is really expanded on and fits his personality and doesn't feel forced.

He's a pretty good character, which makes him top tier in fates

49th Odin

In a game with limited time to know characters it annoys me when another has to THREATEN that characters life to get them to drop an act. I know people in the world really like Owain/Odin but I'm not in that camp. Selena needs to literally threaten him to even not put on an act. Even worse his shift into the mage arts have completely neutered him as a fighter.

But yeah he's not great. Definitely the worst of the Awakening trio.

48th Keaton

This is the first character whose actually decently strong or even great to rank this low. But the issue I have here is character and personality. I literally can't make it thru a dialog with this character without wanting to throw up. Why? everything is related to descriptive opinions and details on his trash collection.

these guys are going to to need a pretty hearty write-up to justify how they got below forrest.

Garon and Iago arent on here, I went with playable only. Garon is a shell character and Iagos just Screech from saved by the bell as a villain

47th Fuga

Fuga is a character that would be really high on my list if he wasn't a secret bonus character. He's an ok character in background and a monster on the battlefield. But because he's a secret character he doesn't really have development, except a convo with Hayato that is literally Hayato's best.

46th Hinata

In terms of useless characters, I think of Hinata as the blank average of what I based everything on. He isn't offensively bad or sparkling great. His backstory is he exists, his interactions are that he exists. Look the game really wants to convince you this character exists but I've seen him in battle, I don't believe it. There isn't a character more bland, more nothing in every field hes in.

45th Hisame

Funny you should say that as here we go. Hinatas child is just as boring. He has some mildly interesting convos with some of the children. Learning that he was meant to originally be Hinatas twin and that would be the dynamic makes more sense looking at this. That being said both of them are boring and generic sword boys.

Actually Hisame is supposed to be some kind of historian now or eventually so thats minorly interesting?

44th Elise

I think Elise could be interesting but shes just too young and hear to appear to a certain demographic. Her design is fine but again too young. In Battle well yikes but shes a good healer if she can survive with a partnered unit. To me you see elements where Elise could be an interesting character but so much of her convos to get to that point goes thru easily the most childish nonsense

There's no way Elise deserves an F for usefulness. 7 move healer with a damage reduction aura is automatically useful.

As a character I think she's way too low as well but that's definitely more subjective. But I thought she was an effective character and I usually don't like child characters (nor the series' previous "little sister" characters for that matter).

Elise is too low simply because her role in Birthright alone honestly puts her over an embarrassingly high amount of the cast. Should be ahead of Camilla in her own family at the least (in fact Camilla should have dropped out of the running like 15 spots ago), Xander, and I'll say Takumi and Sakura too. I assume Ryoma has like EX Rank Usefulness and it is carrying him. >_>
