Do you find this question inappropriate for teens during sex ed?

Christian Parents whose kids attend Lafayette Prep Academy are outraged after students were permitted to submit explicit questions to be disccused in sex education class!!

The school sent an email to parents alerting them that some students in 7th and 8th grade put forward questions about human sexuality they wanted coveredin class

Roxanne Taylor,a relative of one of the kids said it was inappropriate for 13 and 14 y/o's to be exposed to sexually explicit information and such intimiate questions

She said "How has this become the new normal for this to be OK to be taught to our kids in school? They don't need to know this that soon. The world is already over-sexualized because of the media and entertainment these kids are exposed to"

She said the school has crossed the line for a parents' right to broach the subject of sex with their children at the time of their choosing as they come from a religious household who teaches their children to remain saved until marriage

But the school defended their approach stating the students were the one who had submitted those questions anonymously and that they were not part of a homework assignment or exam

Susan Marino said "It is a developmentally appropriate curriculum and typically the questions are developmentally appropriate. These are things kids are hearing about and seeing and we want to give them objective and matter of fact answers to the questions they have"

They are introduced the "OWL" curriculum that stands for Our Whole Lives and covers topics of human development and sexuality as parents are allowed to pull their kids during class if they find it objectionable.

Roxanne says this should not be taught at public schools as her relative plans to PULL their child out of the public school system over this.

Do you think these questions are inappropriate for sex ed?

Blame the bible. It also glorifies violence and hates sexuality.

13 and 14 years old is a good time to teach kids about sex. Heck in my christian school my class back in 5th grade my class was taught about sex because a senior got pregnant during a trip or something

If kids are asking about it they need to know about it. Nave to think otherwise.

I also don't see how it's so bad to explain how reproduction works when asked a question about being impregnated in a threesome.

Why is it the states job to teach kids this shit? Schools are for math and science and academic things. Sex and relationships can and should be explained by parents when theyre ready. The kids will discuss it amongst themselves anyways, its not like if the school says nothing they'll all believe babies come from a stork.

You got sex ed, howd that turn out for you? Seems to me like all these kids are perverted now. I remember we got shown the videos in 5th grade, they were explaining all the basic shit and saying how it was ok to masturbate. Id never even thought about masturbating, i was too busy playing outside.

Kids dont need to be encouraged to masturbate, they need discipline and structure and fundamentals that will get them ahead in life. Now we have a bunch of sensitive kids that know how to touch themselves but cant do math.

Back when I went to school they somehow taught math AND sex ed as well as many other subjects. Are schools teaching single subjects every day for several years at a time now? What if the kid is ready to talk about it before their prude parents? They should just operate on their stupid kid beliefs? Haven't we been criticizing schools for not prepping kids for real life for a very long time? We should teach kids as much as possible and not shelter them because the man in the sky said masturbation is evil. Kids need to know sex ed during puberty. Nothing is more dangerous than being horny and stupid.

Kids discussing it among themselves is why adults need to step in and teach them about life. Parents aren't always reliable.

Only thing i recognize keith_valentine from was the time he defended Christopher Columbus for raping teenagers because "have you seen teen girls lately?" and that getting raped "isn't the worst thing that can happen to a teen girl". It's pretty obvious his pearl clutching over people growing up with "perverted" sexual attidtudes is hardcore projection from someone who came up in a household like the one of the woman in the OP.

No, better for them to find out in a more discussive manner than to be forever dumb.

Though I'm not suprised it caused someone to flip out, because some parents love the route of 'don't tell em anything and it won't ever happen' which is stupid. Hopeful at best.

I don't know where you live but down here in the south we have parents that are terrified of being smitten and chastised by their peers for talking to their kids about sex, preachers telling everyone to keep it in their pants until they're married...and exorbitant teen pregnancy rates. I'd agree with you if parents actually did talk to their kids about sex but they don't. It's just simply not a realistic solution right now.

There were less stds, but there was more teen pregnancy, because girls considered teens were in married relationships and the pregnancy was expected. Now there is less teen pregnancy statistically but when it occurs it is often unplanned and out of wedlock. So its radically different circumstances. However the US still has some of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in a first world country. Largely in part, supposedly, because of repressive attitudes towards teenage sex and lack of access to womens healthcare. Like in the US teen sex is seen as somehow bad. Whereas other countries like France it is considered normal and they have more access to confidential birth control centers that help them avoid pregnancy, or end it.

So i was wrong again. Reflecting on this, its not the schools fault. The schools are just trying to mitigate the damage inflicted by our sex obsessed society. I will redirect my rage towards Hollywood and porn in the future. I see the kids as vulnerable and want to protect them, but that is probably a flaw in myself because I have old fashioned attitudes towards sex in some ways. But you cant stick your head in the sand on this shit and doing so harms real people.
