Im sure it will dominate as the competition isnt very well regarded either. if this were better entries from the series, maybe people can navigate around the natural tendency to vote Zelda at all costs.

like, I bet Skyward/ME2 is debatable for a lot of people, but ME3 is just too easy of a punching bag

Eh, I don't think ME2 looks so bad after MGS3 beat MGS1 afterward and outdid RE4 against SMRPG (which probably had a bandwagon going by that point anyway). The only thing that makes that look weird is BioShock doing so well against MGS3 the round before, but that looks like an outlier (although BioShock did well in GOTD1, too).

yeah hopefully Infinite makes it into the bracket. that game was probably pretty good back in 2015-ish but has been kind of completely forgotten in the years since as Bioshock has gone on permanent hiatus.

MGS3/Mass Effect 2 is one of the bigger statistical outliers of that contest. Not a good look for ME2 even if you assume it's supposed to be better than that though.

2015 doesn't really make me worry about ME2. It always does well whenever there are POTDs that feature it. The thing that makes me worry about ME2 is the fact that Andromeda put the series into cold sleep and people just don't care about it anymore. People might have been angry after ME3, but they still cared. Nobody talks about Mass Effect anymore.

Fallout is the same way, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, even Pokemon. it results in the competition being even worse than youd expect since were not really picking up Red Dead and Outer Wilds and PUBG and others that have been front and center and are taking the place of these fading franchises elsewhere.

If Mass Effect 1 could beat Mario Galaxy 2 I see no reason why Mass Effect 2 can't beat Skyward Sword.

Breath of the Wild is so good that I won't actually be upset if it wins...!

I just don't know how they're the only long running series that can pull this off without remakes

I feel like there's a bit of a gap between Skyward Sword/MGSV and Sun and Moon/Mass Effect 3, especially considering that the most recent installments of each of the latter series likely dealt noticeable damage to their brand names. I went with Skyward Sword > MGSV because of ZeldaFEAR, but I could definitely see that going the other way.

I doubt Survive had enough publicity/playrate to affect the brand much. It was mostly a fiasco people pointed and laughed at from afar, as opposed to a game that many longtime series fans played and were let down by.

I mean if you replaced ME3 with 1 or 2 i'd take oth of them over SS. But ME3 is hated a lot for some reason despite being a great game.

Fourpack suggestion: Red Dead Redemption/New Vegas, Portal 2/Arkham City

Maybe replace New Vegas with Mass Effect 2 if you're confident people will be putting lots of stock into a brand tanking after one big fiasco.

GameFAQs likes Red Dead, it just isnt at the very top tier.

And what happened to Mass Effect is very different to those other series. Fallout released an unbelievably bad side game and Bethesda have fallen a lot in peoples estimations, but the core games are still well regarded. MGS slowly faded. Pokmon released one controversial game, controversial because of how much would still love those older games. Only Final Fantasy really compares, easily the biggest fall from grace since Sonic. With Mass Effect though they had already in the eyes of many cheapened the previous games with the ending, then they had a disastrous main game, THEN they publicly buried the series, all set to Biowares reputation crumbling. At least with Final Fantasy it was a long time coming.

Also dont underestimate Skyward Sword. Disappointment or no its still a well-received console Zelda.

I'm not sure I'd see this as a series contest. With other Zelda entities on the bracket, I doubt they'd have any trouble abandoning SS. I'd go with SS here, but I wouldn't feel safe about it.

S/M is the only game without a huge backlash against it so I voted for it.

But otherwise, I have a hard time betting against zelda.

This fourpack is something awful. Two of the worst games I've ever played in one match and two games I haven't had the displeasure of playing in the other.

I wouldn't expect any of this rubbish to make the final bracket, except for Skyward since it's Zelda.

Nah, I expect Mass Effect 3 and MGSV to make the bracket, too. Depending on the size of the bracket, Sun/Moon might make it, too.

ALBW was a reason GotY winner here last games contest and wasn't in the bracket. I fully expect Skyward Sword to miss the bracket most of these because Zelda has better entries. MSG has nothing else, ME has just the one more liked game and Pokemon is probably more debatable among the fanbase, which means its likely to have more games making the bracket.

There were also only 37 games eligible for this contest in 2015's bracket, so I'm really struggling to see how Skyward Sword can't slip into any of the extra 91 slots. It's not like it doesn't have fans who would place it among their ten nominations, either, even if they're relatively few and far between.

If this contest turns out to only have 64 entrants for some reason, I could see Skyward Sword missing out, but even then, I wouldn't count on it.

Yeah, that's the thing. This is a very narrow field, so it's easier to make this contest. If it's a regular 128 entrant contest, I'd be pretty surprised if Skyward Sword and/or LBW got shut out entirely.
