I'll fill this out later if I have time, but the most egregious snubs all revolved around The Lighthouse. Willem Dafoe would be my pick for best actor, easily.

I guess if Hanks is "supporting" this year then I can buy Dafoe as well. But imo he was a co-lead. He had 50% of the lines in the film after all!

yeah it's a tough call on both. Dafoe would be my pick whichever category he's in, but if I had to choose one of Pattinson/Dafoe to be considered the "lead" of that movie it'd probably be Pattinson

Ford vs Ferrari definitely seems out of place among the Best Picture nominations

I mean objectively Christian Bale was great and the editing was top notch (I expect it to be pretty much between that and 1917 for most technical awards) but it just didn't have the same impact for me story-wise as many of the others.

1917 is like Gravity. Really amazing technically and a must-see in theaters, but there's not a whole lot of depth to it. How it got nominated for screenplay over The Lighthouse is beyond me. That might actually be the worst error of them all.

Yeah I've also seen Marriage Story. Very good, not quite on the same level for me as many of the other nominees. If I had ten choices for actor and actress instead of 5, they'd both make it

I'm being redundant but I really can't believe neither Florence Pugh OR Willem Dafoe got a nomination. I do not buy that there are 5 performances better than both of theirs, probably not even in the last decade.

Pugh did get nominated! (But for a different role)

This was a strong year though, can see them all staying. I think if I had to cut a couple they would be Joker and Ford v Ferrari which I thought were fine but not outstanding? Knives Out and the Farewell would replace them.

Parasite > Marriage Story > Irishman > Jojo > Ford > Joker

havent gotten around to 1917 yet though, and a lot of the ones I havent seen yet are free on prime so hm...

oh I somehow deleted little women and Hollywood, uh put them both ahead of Irishman for now...
