19 y/o Claire Chung, a college student in Maryland is lucky to be alive after she was hospitalized in the intensive care unit and nearly DIED after she vaped a JUUL and other e-cigs that destroyed her LUNG TISSUE causing her to come down with 104 degree fever!!

She lives in Washington DC and shared her story on instagram when she posted a picture of herself lying in a hospital bed with tubes and a machine

She assumed it was the flu or a cold that caused it but none of the meds were working.

Claire thought it might have been malaria, autoimmune disorders and many other diseases but after being on 2 antibiotics for 49 hours, her fever spiked to 104 and she went into an ER

The doctors exhausted all tests and couldn't determine why this was happening to her. A CT Scan showed her lungs that was extremely disturbing as she posted what healthy lungs look like and what hers was..

It was determined she had no infection and her lung tissue was completely destroyed because of the use of Juuls and vapes and oil cartridges.

She wrote "Not only is there severe damage in my lungs, but from when i started school to when i graduate, my only break was this month of December. That means if this happened a couple weeks earlier or later, i would nto have had access to healthcare and this wouldn't have been caught.In that case, i would most likely be DEAD within a month. Please take it from personal experience that this is NOT worth it from something as stupid as a nicotine device. The stories that you're hearing online are REAL"

Dailymail has reached out to JUUL for comment but they have not responded

So far 57 americans have been killed because of these vaping devices and over 2600 are currently hospitalized with lung diseases related to e-cigs

In general yes. The scare mongering stories are often from folk who use them incorrectly. However you would be putting things into your lungs that you shouldn't and possibly using Nicotine so they are not healthy. E-Cigs are great for helping folk quit smoking though and that's their original reason for existing. I see zero point in vaping without nicotine as at that point you'll just be doing it for the taste and I can taste things without putting shit into my lungs.

It's generally safe if you stick to regular vape pens and e-juice. She doesn't disclose exactly what she used for some reason, except for the vague "juuls and vapes and oil cartridges". I'm willing to bet it was the oil cartridges that did this considering those were linked to almost every case in last year's sudden outbreak of similar illnesses.

Of course all the No votes are going to be from people who have already made up their minds about vaping, truth be damned.

How many people get mysterious lung illnesses and/or die this quickly from smoking cigarettes or cigars? Obviously way less. I mean, it's all unhealthy, duh, but clearly vaping is worse for you given how it's only been around a short time and already causing a ton of problems. The only problem is black market THC carts which is what these kids are all getting sick from. People are cutting them with vitamin c oil because it has a similar look and you can make more cash from it. Vitamin C cannot be inhaled. There was a bust in a nearby city to me where this college age kid had a staff of like 10 people cranking out these fake cartridges packaged like legit products from legal states. Do you think these guys are doing lab tests to make sure their stuff is clean?

There is a reason vaping has been popular for close to a decade and all of a sudden there are a bunch of deaths and lung injuries just from the last year. It's not from nicotine vapes.

Were you a smoker then? I was and they were around, just not as common until like 2012 when they started getting really big. That's around when I quit smoking and switched.

Edit: wait don't answer that, it's really not the point. The first part of my post is what's important because that is the real problem.

The things that have happened maybe but the cause of them nope. Scare mongering folk from E-cigs is just a way to keep folk smoking cigarettes and thus giving the government more tax. Also if something is popular the media is bound to shit on it because it gets clicks. The bottom line is e-cigs are better than smoking and the best way to quit. If used right they are not a problem too for most people.

Most things are usually around for a while before becoming big. Things dont always just come out and become big overnight, AFAIK. As for these, I think a few people had it. And because of them, a few more got it. Eventually, everyone had them...

Depends why you're vaping. If it's to quit smoking like I did box mods are not a good replica of a cigarette so are much harder for people to adapt to. Plus not everyone wants to be blowing out or sucking in massive amounts of vape. The technique for box mods is very different to other e-cigs/vape devices and the draw isn't as tight. Most problems come from folk with SUB-OHM devices as they use them incorrectly. I personally used a iCare mini to quit smoking. Those are great for a stealth vape too and have a draw like a cigarette.

This is old news but if you wanna know what's actually causing this go ahead and read this. Keep in mind at the point the CDC released this, many states were all worried about nicotine bans and blah blah blah but that's not going to solve anything if teenagers keep buying illegal drugs made who knows where.

Not really sure what can be done about this though, honestly. THC is still illegal in most states but these stories have popped up everywhere. Plus I suppose you'd still have to be 18 (or 21?) In legal states anyway so imagine there is still a black market with teens for this stuff in those states too. Probably cheaper to buy from little timmy who makes em in his basement than to purchase from a taxed dispensary.

Perhaps a full scale legalization would cut back some of the injuries but these stories come up in legal states such as Colorado as well. Since teens are the majority of the ones getting injured, it seems that they are still buying drugs from the black market in legal states too. That definitely wont change, especially if the smoking age is 21. Teens are still gonna find drugs one way or another.

So I dunno, maybe educate street dealers about what they put in their drugs, but somehow that doesn't seem likely lol
