So what? Xbox Series X isn't the only way to play new Xbox games. That's the point. Let Microsoft worry about making money. If you want to play Halo Infinite there's like 4 different ways to play it depending on what you want. That's awesome! It's pretty obvious their new method is to make Game Pass and their games as accessible as possible.

Are people excited to buy new controllers for their PS5 because it makes more money for Sony? Makes no sense to me.

Yeah pretty much. What Microsoft is doing is going to be very pro consumer, and they have a shit load of money anyways. I'm pretty sure what they're trying to go for is brand recognition. I'm all for it.

An ssd is more than enough reason. Throw in pretty for casual and framerate for the insufferables and the only people who give a fuck are people who are still picking a console war side.

And with at least Microsoft first party being play anywhere, people who don't adopt day 1 can then replay the game on the new system without rebuying the game.

Sony does fucked up stuff whether they're on the top or bottom.

I think it's neat that Microsoft is basically stepping back from the "console war". They want money, we want games. Everyone wins. I'll get one eventually but I've never been a day one adopter so I don't care about day one exclusives to begin with.

Sad why? Playing on the console isn't the exciting part. Playing new games is. Microsoft are funding more new games than ever. If you play them somewhere else that isn't an issue and if it is that's what the Xbox Series X is for.

This IS competition. PlayStation is going to make a big deal about PlayStation Now. That service has to compete with Game Pass. Anyone playing Microsoft games or Game Pass is actively not giving Sony money.

I think the whole "Buy an Xbox Series X and you get a month of Game Pass which gets you access to Halo Infinite and over a hundred games" will work absolutely fine for them at launch.

Especially since you can get the console included with some subscriptions too.

They're clearly changing up their model.

As of now, I don't have any plans on getting the next Xbox generation because there aren't any games I absolutely want to play only for that console. There are a lot of future PS games that I am excited about, and I can just play multiplatform games on the PS5. We'll see what happens come E3 when they show it off, but right now I'm going for PS5.

I have said this before, but I think both exclusive libraries are not good. I buy Xbox because I think the UI, internet access, and overall reliability of the system is superior. Also to avoid the DualShock lol.

I think it's overall a good thing you have the big three going in different directions.

Microsoft are putting services/software over hardware. They want you subscribed to Game Pass and they're spreading that out as far as they can.

PlayStation are sticking with a traditional model and dipping their toes into streaming. The latter will probably be a bigger deal than people expect. They're also not as cut throat about as exclusives as they used to be with games like Death Stranding, Detroit Become Human and Predator going to PC.

Nintendo are all in with the Switch while also trying to figure out mobile games.

All three will likely succeed in a different way. That's the most ideal scenario for any gamer.

My PC is garb, and I love Forza games. I might stick with my One X an extra year or so because of Microsoft's approach, but I will get the new console down the line. They'll even have baseball this gen!

Xcloud also seems like it has promise. If I can play a game on my phone during lunch at work, that's really cool, and doesn't detract from the home console experience.

I wonder if this will eventually be their undoing. Certainly not any time soon but the PS4 era was defined by them playing it safe. If Microsoft hadn't stuck their foot in their mouth right out of the gate the PS4 would have nothing to go on. If their plan going forward is "just make another Playstation" I wonder if it'll keep being marketable against Microsoft spreading themselves out and basically guaranteeing some kind of steady revenue as well buying up a ton of developers for first party games, although we still need to wait and see what comes of that. If all Sony has going forward is some pretty good games it might not be enough.

Yeah Sony needs to actually do something instead of just reacting to Microsoft.

It took them 4.5 years to add the ability to download PS4 games to Playstation Now, and that was still over 2 years after Game Pass launched with that ability.

That's not to mention they don't even keep first-party games on there and when they remove them you're SOL.

Hell no. Xbox One UI is a big mess, laggy and ugly. PS4's is so simple and user friendly, and I'm still not even sure if I can put custom wallpaper pictures on my Xbox like I can PS4. Running apps is much better and easier to navigate on PS4 as well. Apart from the controller, Sony was superior this gen.

Dude I can't even access the Playstation Store from my PS4 unless it's literally the first thing I do when I turn the console on or wake it from rest and this is an issue that's been happening for years that they've still never fixed and has followed me across 3 different PS4s.

E: And just to be clear this isn't a "me" issue it's a known problem.

I've been around since the original xbox and i may start to steer away. I was looking at my xbox one games and most if not all of them are on playstation but not vice versa. i've always known playstation has more titles but this might be it for me. unless halo gets better like the glory days.

Exclusive games has always been the selling point of a system. The Switch wouldn't sell as much consoles without a Mario Kart/ Smash/ Zelda etc.

While Microsoft doesn't care about the exclusives, the customers are just stuck with a system with games that are already on Playstation.

the fact that games cost more on console and you need to pay to play online and have to buy an entirely new console to upgrade advance to the next gen, in the long run you are paying more.

on paper gamepass sounds like a fantastic deal but imo in practice i think it has limited appeal, most people are not going to be taking advantage of everything on the service and are probably better off just buying the specific games they want individually.

i have been playing xbox for nearly 20 years now, my big issue with the console is that it seems directionless. throughout those 20~ years its been refocused again and again console for PC gamers, a more mainstream console, a casual gaming box, a multimedia box, back to a mainstream console, and now it's some sort of discount gaming box? so when i buy a Series X what am I buying into here? because the Xbox One I bought in 2013 is dramatically different than the one I have now in 2020

The problem isn't exclusives, per say, but that studios will always need to take the lowest common denominator into accout -- the base X1. That means games are either going to be developed with that in mind and then upscaled or there are going to be multiple different teams working on multiple different titles which is going to cause budgets to inflate rapidly.

It always baffles me that when it comes to consoles that most people think exclusives are literally the only thing separating the two and the console offers nothing more.

Xbox offered Game Pass, with that ultimate deal I am paying $2 a month for the next two years for both Game Pass and Gold online service. Does that not balance out not having as many exclusives at all? Any PS owners paying $48 total for 2 years of online play and a library of over 100 games to download and play?

The controllers make a difference, a lot of people have a preference there also. If you game online, what your friends are playing on makes a difference.

It's always, constantly exclusives in arguments. Saying no exclusives gives people no reason to buy it is flat stupid. I have over 800 games to play, half of those are in my backlog. I'm good for a few years.
