Yeah, they were done pushing Luger as a main eventer after WMX, so I doubt even when Hall/Nash jump ship in 96 they would consider putting the title on him. His ceiling would've been "Filler feud for HBK/Bret", and he might have won the Intercontinental title in '96/'97. And this is under the assumption he doesn't get fired at some point even with WCW breathing down them. Once the Attitude Era starts, he straight up gets lost in the crowd.

I've just finished watching the women's Rumble and think it was the best one they've done, Alexa and Bianca were so great in the first half and then the Shayna stuff rocked at the end. Only real down point was Santino. Shame about the result though - Shayna should absolutely have been the winner from NXT.

I thought at that point it was obvious that they were setting up Drew to win as well. No complaints on that end. I just wonder if there was a 'cleaner' way for Drew to have got the elimination.

Personally I wasn't a huge fan of Lesnar dominating every entrant for so long before that happened either. I get it, it's setting up a story and selling his dominance but it meant that we basically only got half a rumble. And the Rumble is the whole reason I wanted to watch. You could have had Braun and Keith Lee coming in slightly earlier and Brock realizing he had bitten off more than he could chew. Then Drew coming in directly after and cleaning up after an exerted Brock just eliminated them or was in the process of doing so. That way you have a longer actual rumble and there's no nut shot, Brock is eliminated cleaner whilst still having the excuse of being tired.

The low blow was key to the build. Drew has the argument that not only did he eliminate Brock, but he won the Rumble. Brock can argue that it was delegitimize by his time already spent in the Rumble and the cheap shot. It compels both to a match. It also leaves Ricochet in a position to get retribution

I think worrying about the "clean" or "dirty" situation in a Rumble match flies in the face of two things.

1. Rumbles are No DQ, and 2001 was the "hardcore" Rumble. Everything is clean and anything goes.

2. Lesnar is notoriously weak to nutshots...like every other man in existence.

Didn't matter how. Drew got the final shot in and was the focal point of the rest of the build.

It would help if I knew or cared about more than like five of the competitors, or if anybody besides the hair girl had gotten enough spotlight to make me care. And then you had Santina in the year of our lord 2020, and a Charlotte win.

but mainly it was just like an entire field of "oh I think I saw her once" and "oh I've heard her name" and Rumbles are not a great format to sell you on more than a couple of people you don't already know

It's not. Mandy and Sonya aren't great by any means, but they have decent grasp of their characters and complement each other with the power moves (Mandy) and striking (Sonya). They just suck at promos.

Now if only the IICONICS character work mixed with Fire and Desire's in ring, you'd have well rounded wrestlers. Too bad both pairs suck in the opposite fashion.
