Have you ever had a dream about a girl/guy who doesn't exist and you NEVER met or seen?

According to statistics, if you had a dream about a person who doesn't exist or someone you never met, that usually means you're going insane..

so has it happened to you yet?.

Yes. This one girl used to always appear in my dreams. I can't rule out never seeing her but I don't remember seeing her.

Yeah. I pass loads of people per day so I probably logged it in my subconscious mind. Even if I didn't I wouldn't count dreaming about a made up person as going insane. Now if you start talking to them then you may have a problem.

Where the fuck does he come up with this shit? The "statistics" are things he makes up on the fly, but how do these bizarre ideas enter his mind?

Its not possible as far as I know. Your subconscious can't create people in your dream state. Any person in your dreams is someone you've seen before. It doesn't mean you interacted with them but you've seen them.

Yup, and rather recently. She even told me her name. "Meeja." Somehow I remembered the exact spelling, and it still sounds like the weirdest name I've ever seen and heard, but she was cute, and we shared a kiss. I also remember telling her off eventually because I already have a gf, and I'd rather just be her friend.

Since I remember vivid details like that, I wonder if that puts me in the top percentile of insanity according to whatever "statistics" this is based on.

Being somewhat of a dream master myself. We can create things we have never seen in our dreams. A person you see in your dreams can be a mashup of other features you have seen or random features your brain put together. Everything in your dream was created by your brain. The wind, trees, roads, random people in the background, buildings, plumbing, physics, etc. Your mind will create trees, buildings, roads, forests, cities, etc that you have never seen before. SO to say that people we see are only people we have met or seen in movies is stretch.

Yeah. Quite a few times. At least it was people I didn't actually know or recognize anyway.

One was a very rough dream to get over. In that dream I fell in love and got married and it was a huge celebration. Then she got killed and the party turned into a funeral. It felt real when it was happening, and even after waking up I thought I'd lost my wife lol.

I recently read a study, any face you see in a dream is someone you have met, maybe even in passing them in the street, as your mind cant create a face it has never seen.

If you use as much energy to dream as you do to function when awake, sleep is redundant. You're lazy enough when awake, how much effort do you think you'll put in when you're in the allotted time to save energy?

In terms of raw magnitude of the activity, the brain is actually roughly as active during REM sleep as while awake. It's just active in different ways. Sleep is weird, and not at all simply a matter of the brain entering a low-power state for a few hours.

As for dreaming specifically, the best theory I've heard for it is that there's random activity happening in the brain, and dreams are what happens when the brain organizes that into pre-existing perceptual schema (that is, plans for interpreting and organizing sensory data). If that's correct, then there's really no difference in the effort involved in interpreting that random activity as a single person compared to interpreting it as multiple people's traits combined into one person.
