This is not the first time we didn't have a poll running. It's happened a few times in the past, but very rarely. CJayC ran this poll back in 2006:

You could probably tell from the vote totals that the poll ran for maybe 3 to 5 hours, going off the vote totals for other polls during that time period.

There's zero need for 12 hour matches now that he can just run multiple matches per day. We only went to 12 hour matches when we had really big brackets so the contest wouldn't take forever.

Geographical trends still exist and 12 hour matches would mean we'd have to put a bunch of asterisks on match results... again.

Last time Allen did that it caused the Noble Nine to live 8 years longer than it deserved to.

Im guess this is to put the beginning of contest matches to align with Allens office hours.

12 hour matches would minimize the number of matches a rallied fanbase can affect so that might be a good thing.

I would only believe this if he had started the poll exactly at 12:00 PM EST, which was not the case here. Looking at the source code of the data used for the Geolocation results and poll graphs, I can see that the poll had 13 votes at 12:35 PM EST. This implies the poll just shortly before 12:35 PM. That's an unusual time to be starting a poll if you're planning to change the poll start time for the contest.

I agree that 24 hour matches are better, but most people got a phone with an Internet connection now so it shouldnt matter to people who care since it only takes like 20 seconds to go to this site and vote.

Also, there's no reason to have 12-hour matches if we already have 24-hour, multiple matches a day. Some games/characters are too dependent on the trends of the hour, and there are many inconveniences with that format, at least in comparison. If we have a boring match, we can always look at another one that's more interesting.

Tanner is not a bad character at all. DRIV3R ruined his character, which is different. Tanner is a badass in Driver and especially Driver 2.

I dig this. I feel like "worst game" can be way more solid than "worst character", just based on name recognition and reputation. It's cooler to say: "Man, can't wait for Big Rigs to wreck everything in its way!" than saying: "Yeah, like, Chester sucks Wait, who was that again?".

Skyrim > SSBU was going to be my upset special but they don't even meet. I think SSBU is overrated but there's nothing to take advantage of that. It cruises to BotW and gets killed there.

So I'm not sure if I can really participate in this contest. I have played a grand total of zero of these games. I may have played SSBU for all of an hour. I watched some videos of the cutscenes of Skyward Sword. But I really have no idea what these games are or how strong they should be.

On one hand, this is one of the most interesting brackets ever, because it has a gazillion new entrants, is not dominated by nintendo/square most of the matches, and seems very hard to predict.

On the other hand, I have played maybe 5% of the games in the bracket and heard of maybe 40%. Most of those names are just names to me. It might get hard for me to get engaged because of that.

Also, no Ace Attorney makes this bracket lose 1 point of of 10 from the start.

To be honest i've got Witcher 3 in the final as well. Although i'm just going on how well it did last time out. Also it looks like it has a really decent draw.

4 hours behind UTC has taken daylight saving into account. Normally America is 5 hours behind during the winter months.

Considering how few games I've played over the past decade, this is by far the least interested I've ever been in an official contest. I'm looking forward to VGMC more by a factor of 100! I'm interested to see how Pokemon HG/SS will do, though.
