The mechanical button don't really add anything too useful. Sure the analog clicking feels nice but that's it. Other than that it's easier to clean cos u can take everything off.

Plus it's so damn loud.

I had a friend who let me try his in college.

Of all the keyboards I've ever typed on, it was definitely one of them.

You buy some sort of fake mechanical keyboard or what?

Either way a $10 MS keyboard will barely even last a year,

I didn't actually. I dont mind the clicking, though. I notice a big difference and have never once had to take mine apart

That's a big thing with mech keyboards. Different colored switches have different loudness and tactile levels. Some switches have no click at all. Blue switches for example are the super loud ones that sound like you're typing on a typewriter.

I was using a flat keyboard before the mechanical one so it is a huge improvement.

Also the clicking makes it worth it over a standard keyboard.

Ah i have the blue switch that explain the noise. Probably cos i picked the cheapest one i can get.

I mean it is not bad. It feels better than membrane, but people hyped it up like you're in a typing nirvana and using gilded treasure crafted by the gods but it is like 30% improvement with sometimes twice or more the price.

But then again the type of games i play factor too. Mostly play slow games like rpg and while i do play action games i mostly use controller for games like dmc v or dark souls.

Something type intensive like competitive starcraft i can see the advantage in the latency and both the sensory input from the human.

From what I've read, blue and brown switches are for typing and reds are for gaming. I have a nice $90 keyboard with blue switches. It's nice and it's fun to type on but like you said, it's not some nirvana like some people act like. Blue switches don't mean cheap. Switches are based on preference, not price/quality.

Also I bought some o rings for $10 and put them on my key caps. You should really look into them. They give you the great click of blues without the clack that you hear when pressing the keys all the way down(bottoming out).

This is a load of bullshit. Switches are designed to last over 50 milion keystrokes. Crappy $10 keyboard are not. The rubber domes will wear out long before that.

Yeah blues are the worst in terms of noise. Truth be told mechanical keyboards will naturally sound louder because there is no rubber dome to bottom out on, but a lot of mechanical keyboard makers are coming out with little o-rings like what BB linked that you can use to dampen the sound. Some are also coming with the o-rings already installed. I bought a Cherry Red keyboard a few months ago with o-rings installed and it's super quiet compared to a regular mech.

Cause you literally need to resolder the switches if you actually replace them. This isn't something that happens often. While as a $10 keyboard literally stops working after a year or two.

I don't have to resolder anything on mine, you just pry the switch out and plug the new one in

Ok, so you either a) have bought really cheap mechanical keyboards or b) you're not telling us something (like I bash on my keyboards out of anger playing video games or something, lol)

I've owned 4-5 different mech keyboards over the last 10 years and I've never had any with switches that have gone bad due to normal wear and tear.

Nah, hotswap sockets are a real thing for mechanical keyboards. Mostly the Kailh ones are used. Some of the high end custom boards have them, but some people hate them since they're easy to break and might not like how it feels to use them. Also, they don't allow you to customize your switch layout.

It sounds like he was just using some crappy Chinese clone switches and/or a cheap board that isn't working right.
