Show us what he doing between episode 2 and 3 and his time with Palpatine more.

I want to see him swing his lightsaber at sand.

Or maybe between 1 and 2 since there is a bigger time skip.

Anything like that is going to destroy the character more. Vader can only carry a story in a supporting role.

I think Vader's ruthlessness during the purge is better left to the imagination. I don't think it's necessary to dedicate an entire movie to him just showing up different places and killing everybody.

That's what his Marvel comic is about. Just set right after Episode 3 as he takes down all the surviving Jedi throughout the galaxy.

The old Dark Horse clone wars comics are pretty solid if you want more Anakin adventures (too bad TCW was allowed to wreck the Canon)

The Clone Wars is for adults just as much as it is for kids. It's also better than most of the actual movies.

Also, Anakin is one of the show's most interesting characters. They really did him justice compared to what the prequels did.

Yeah there are arc of The Clone Wars that are absolutely more mature than any of the movies. The Umbara arc is straight up space Vietnam.

Not really. Tbh, the concept probably works better in comic book format than movie format.

If there is an intervening movie about Vader hunting down Jedi, the movie basically has to be more about the Jedi than Vader to be a good story for film imo. But that concept is explored in comic books, the Rebels show, and apparently other stories I won't spoil here.

I do think that the PT should have started in the Clone War, and we could see Anakin at his prime fighting for "good" in the middle saga of the trilogy, but the idea has been well explored in the show now, and likely in more depth than a movie could.

Honestly I think we've seen enough EU stuff set between the PT and OT.

It's kinda weird we haven't really had a video game set during or around the sequel trilogy. The most we have is Battlefront 2 DLC.

Then again we've barely had any Star Wars games period thanks to EA.

I imagine once they solidify plans for the next few movies, we'll get more stuff in the sequel era.

The book that focuses on Leia during the rise of the First Order actually has a lot of interesting stuff in it. It's a bit of a shame it was all skipped over in The Force Awakens so they could rush into another rebellion plot.

Having Luke fail as a Master and killing off his new generation of Jedi works really well for the character, but it leaves us in a bind. Essentially, the only stories left to tell will be those that don't add to the era. No new Jedi, no major war(s) -- just a New Republic who'll get blown up in TFA and a First Order gathering support in the shadows.

I'm sure they can come up with something interesting, but the new trilogy didn't set the universe up for success.
Contrast with the Clone Wars animated series being lauded by many and considered to be a great addition to the canon despite the lackluster reception of the prequel trilogy. I guess that's my biggest issue, despite liking the sequels.

I read somewhere that when George Lucas first imagined SW Saga, he imagined a Prologue and a Clone Wars trilogy. By the time he settled on the numbers, I suppose he decided to do the Prologue and the star/end of the trilogy. The Phantom Menace makes a lot of sense at a Prologue to the whole story tbh.

For some reason one of the earliest fanfictions I remember reading was one where the Grievous killed on Utapau was a fake and the real one was hiding in the shadows very much alive. He eventually teamed up with Shaak Ti after Order 66 went down. And of course it was a romance fanfic.

There's around an 18 year gap where Luke is training Jedi. I think there can be some extra stories there. There's also the First Order abducting kids during that time and gradually converting Imperial loyalists in secret.

Characters like Cal from Fallen Order could have their own stories told across the entire saga.

For the most part everything set during the ST will have to be rather smaller scale compared to the prequel trilogy.
