Just got home from seeing it. Was alright. Had some good moments like the cuteness of comedic moments of Babu Frik and the conversation between Han Solo and Kylo Ren, but the acrobatic leaps, jumps, flips. etc of Kylo Ren and Rey and Rey's force lightning sort of took away from the enjoyment. Same with the majority of Princess Leia's dialogue as it was just mostly one-liners from stock (I'm guessing, as Carrie Fisher died during the last movie, right? I didn't believe for a second that Chewbacca died in the force lightning explosion, that Kylo Ren died after the initial force-bump from Palatine, or that Rey died. Lol. I was kind of surprised by the sudden super army of Rebellion ships at the end, though. Deus ex machina, much? I was a little surprised that Rey returned to Tatooine and buried Luke's and Leia's lightsabers, followed by telling the trader her last name. LIAR!

The movie was a cluster fuck. I don't completely blame it, though. The Last Jedi lacked in so many ways that it really left them no choice but to overload Rise of Skywalker.

The sequel trilogy had very poor focus and direction. Very disappointing. The Force Awakens is by far the best of the three, which isn't really saying much. They should never have let Rian Johnson direct The Last Jedi.

It was ok. The revelations got a meh from me and I didn't find any of the villains to be a legit threat. I also don't care about Rey and Ren. At least the Skywalker saga is over now or at least until they bring Vader back because that would help sell the movie.

Letting him direct would have been fine, if they hadn't also allowed him to write it, with no oversight.

When you basically let someone known for being a bit of an iconoclast do whatever they hell they want and don't rein them in, you kind of can't complain if they fuck everything up on you.

The fact that the trilogy was still better than the prequels despite clear direction is impressive.

The Chewbacca fake out was just handled unbelievably badly, it felt like something out of a children's cartoon.

Most of the problems in RoS had little to do with TLJ, at least directly. Finn (and by extension Rose) were probably the part most badly affected that would have been difficult to course correct. But I think a lot of it came down to JJ (or whoever) being unwilling to adapt their own prepared ideas with what had already happened in TLJ. Which makes the whole trilogy feel zig zaggy, and made ROS in particular feel like an over packed mess.

People overstate how much of OT Star Wars (and Disney Marvel) is planned in advance but it never felt like the movies were fighting with each other. This feels like a callback to the old EU where you have Luke being shipped with different characters depending on who is writing.

It was executed better, but the plot and general premise of the sequel trilogy was far worse.

The prequels had a great premise, but were executed very poorly. The acting was woody and soulless with the exception of Qui-Gon, Obi-wan, and Mace Windu. The writing needed a lot of work, too.

News just in: Opinion is fact.
Revenge of the Sith > The whole new trilogy. Darth Maul > Kylo Ren. Anakin Skywalker > Rey

I haven't seen all of them, but I disagree with this statement. I'd say they are pretty equally terrible.

The prequels have a better overall plot and setting, and at least a few characters I care about. The Sequels did nothing but crap all over the OT.

Just like Indiana Jones, there are only three Star Wars movies.

I don't know how it's possible to be bashing the ST and still have an opinion this bad, it's like scoring an own goal playing against toddlers.

Not tagging spoilers here.

As I said in the geek topic, if I went into this movie blind, knowing nothing at all about 40+ years of continuity and Jedi lore, it was pretty good.

That being said, THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS. THAT'S NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS!

As an addendum, I'm ok with Rey being a Palpatine. I suspected that she was from the start of her arc TBH because her instinctive lightsaber technique with zero training was the same as Sheev's.

Palpatine's resurrection/survival wasn't out of the question given "the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis". Snoke always looked like a bad clone. But the entire force dyad, avatar of 1000 Sith, and the Schrdinger's Force teleport shenanigans were a complete and total ass-pull.

At least Chewy finally got his medal.

But we never got an explanation for why Luke's Lightsaber was hanging out in Maz's basement.

I mean just because a character appears a lot doesn't automatically make them better. Ren was basically a emo kid and wasn't a threat. Although you're not wrong Darth Maul does looks cool and his saber is great too. However Ren too has a great saber and I didn't mind is look with the mask on. The problem was when he took it off and was nothing more than a emo bitch.

Darth Vader > Palpatine > Darth Maul > Ren > Count Dooku in terms of legit threats for me so you can stop your crying. Ren isn't the worse.

I actually like Adam Driver as an actor. He's been pretty damned good in almost everything I've seen him in.

Except as Darth Vader's emo grandson.
