12 y/o Cayden Parson from Texas got a new shiny MAGNIFYING GLASS for CHRISTMAS..and he accidentally BURNT their FRONT LAWN after playing with it outside their home!!

His Mom, Nissa-Lynn said no one was hurt and all is forgiven as they didn't think twice their son, an avid reader, requested a magnifying glass as a gift for chritmas

But what happens next is something they didn't realize could happen as the glass was used on the grass and with the sun's rays it quickly started catching fire!!

She said her boys went out on the driveway and burned a couple of holes in some paper and everything was under control until the boys came running in and screaming that the corner of the lawn wason fire and the christmas lights were melting..

They rushed out with other family members to extinguish the fire as the lawn turned black.

They used bucketsof water and sprinklers to stop the fire and kept it from spreading to the neighbors

The mother said instead of a regular Christmas this was a Christmas to remember..and to never buy their kids a magnifying glass again!

Do you think a magnifying glass can cause that kind of fire damage?

Of course the moral of the story isn't to supervise your children. A woman, let alone a mother is the last person who should be expected to be bothered with child supervision. What do they think women are, animals? Animals supervise their children! It's benieth a modern civilized woman to reduce herself to living like an animal and watching over her child!!

At least that's what I get out of that.
To the point of the question though, if the grass is dry enough, all it can take is a spark.

In my youth I used a magnifying glass on some of my toys. Melted a few of them like that.

I would say staring at the bright light a magnifying glass makes when focusing sunlight is probably more dangerous than the burning aspect since most places aren't dry enough for it to cause a serious fire but the light is always there to damage developing eyes.

Looking at it, and being texas, the grass being dry isnt surprising.
