You are currently an obligate monarchy, so power remains in the hands of genetic lineages (for the most part)

But - you have the option at some point to convert to fascism. Doing so will not necessarily oust your character, but I don't see the difference between obligate monarchies and fascism off hand; since the king IS the state, and you have loyalty to the state... so they're the same thing, right?

Of course, could also convert to constitutional monarchy, but doing so will reduce your maximum mana (or whatever)

Fascism is enforcing rules and beliefs by force. If you don't beat your citizens in to line, you're no fascist.

No. the trick to a true fascist utopia is to make the citizensbeat each other. Then you don't have to do anything!

Well, for starters, power might not go to your genetic heir. Otherwise in general you an draw parallels between may kinds of governments since there are only a handful of distinct nuances and these systems have overlap. In the case of fascism, communism, etc, the state supersedes everything whereas in a monarchy you can have conflicting loyalties such as to your religion (which is why the state tries to get rid of religion when religion isn't empowering the state).

And, in the case of a monarchy, people might hold loyalty to various lords instead of directly swearing loyalty to the nation's leader (and, in theory, those lords serve the leader so they rally forces in the king's name).
