Made a big decision today. I retired from being a fanficcer after twenty years. Not easy to do, but I think it will be better for me in the long run. I mean, I'll keep writing, since I'm not about to stop doing that, but I've got to get out of that space. It's so toxic now that it's impossible to get anything done.

It's cool that you did it for so long. Did you stick mainly to a few series or a little bit of anything?

I dabbled very lightly in it for a while, but gave up since being a perfectionist and having little talent is a terrible combo.

over halfway done with da capo 3 vn now, did anyone watch the anime? seems kind of dumb that the anime covers such a ridiculously small part of the overall story

maybe the first 4~ hours is what the anime covers, and the vast majority of the rest of the game is spent in 1953

Didn't realize that both Rune Factory 4 Special AND Megaman Zero/ZX Collection is coming out soon.

I am really really tempted to get both on the Switch. Even though I already played both of them numerous times on their original platforms.

But I only have a limited budget for games this year. (Like around $180), and I was already planning on getting Cyberpunk.

What to do?

Yeah it's currently airing. I was expecting more of an ecchi comedy angle but it's more like light ecchi iyashikei so far. Also a pleasant level of yuri, though probably not enough to call the show a yuri anime. Then again, I've only seen 2 eps. Theres nothing amazing about it so far, but it's enjoyable which is all I was hoping for.

What is a iyashikei?

Also, @DeltaBladeX what do you think of the Nekopara anime if you even knew there was one?

The OVA? I know of it but haven't watched it, expensive on Steam and didn't just download it since I can actually buy it, even if just on Steam. The TV series, I haven't seen it yet.

Iyashikei when I see it has generally been translated to healing. Shows that are meant to be calming and pleasant. Stuff like senko-san or yuru camp. No real tough obstacles for the cast to overcome, no real drama, not really super hilarious, just pleasant vibes and relaxation. Aria is probably the best example I can think of.

Its been really fun trying to master advanced techniques and character combos and watching tourneys and learning about the top players in the world.

With the 1st season pass over now, we have another one coming out which will release six characters over the next two years. Theres been talk about Sora and Overwatch characters being in it which would be cool.

So it;s pretty close to slice of life. And cinsidering K-On is one of my favorite anime and it's on the list on that link, I'm sure I'd like this genre.

I really want to get into smash but the online is just SOOOOO shit that I always give up. It is legit fun when it works well or you play offline but nintendo really managed to make almost the worst possible system. Literally halo 2 on release, worked 1000x better than smash does online. It's appalling. If online worked good, you'd see it probably become a much bigger esport but as it is, having to go in person to play people just kills it for so many people.

Online works just fine for me, though the switch is right next to the router.

I even bought a hard wired connection usb adapter cord for bad times.

I mean, I watch a lot of pro smash players pretty often. They all complain about online and like 1 out of every 10 games is just an unplayable slideshow for them.

Also, aside from the netcode, the actual set up is pretty bad. Not having a competitive ranked playlist is a bit frustrating and something that'd be in basically every other fighting game out there.

it's a good reminder i need to get off my ass and finish dies irae, subahibi, and steins;gate i guess

It seems recommendations are usually crap on any site. I've gotten plenty of stuff I already own recommended on Steam for example.

I started in Sailor Moon (because the community in the '90s was amazing), moved to Guilty Gear and Soul Calibur, and ended up in Fire Emblem, where I did the bulk of my work, but I have dabbled in all kinds of stuff over the years.

One of my best friends in high school was huge into Harry Potter and Sherlock fanfic. Never been able to get into it myself, honestly. Hell, I don't even like doujins of series I know. Just feels weird to me, most of the time.

There was one Tales of Symphonia one I liked for a while just because I was... well... playing nothing other than ToS for a few years of my life.

Most of the fanfics I ever read were lemons (I don't even know if they still use that term), or occasionally comedies. Other than that, there was this cool Detective Conan one where Conan lost his memory (which would naturally cause a lot of confusion, being a genius in an 8 year old's body), and a really good Harry Potter conclusion before The Deathly Hallows came out.

Memory loss makes for some good AUs. Wasn't fanfic, but that's how the Toradora PSP VN went. And it was the only way some pairings would ever be possible...

Depends on how far back you go. Chrono Trigger fanfic has a long history, and it goes back to the heyday of video game fanfic as a medium.

Ok, episode 3 of bofuri really sold me. This has a lot of what I want from "isekai". The fighting is cool but what I really like is just the wonderful sights and small details present in the game. The sunset beach, the astral dining. Stuff like that really makes the world feel so much more interesting and alive.

Reminds me a lot of the small things Monster Hunter World has done with it's food and housing and endemic creatures and stuff. I love things that make the game feel larger and more complete. Also props to the fictional devs in bofuri for nerfing the shit out of the main characters broken ass build. This show is just so fun and enjoyable. I feel like I could watch it forever.

Gotta praise bofuri even more. The battles actually feel pretty clever with how they use skills. This show doesn't really NEED good battles but it has them anyway. I find myself smiling without realizing it while watching this show. Really makes me want to play an MMO. If only blue protocol would enter open beta soon but it looks like CBT is still a month or so off.
