i made this topic just to tell you all to play baldr sky again, because at 90 hours in, i finally finished the main story, and it blows everything else out of the water. it's like if muvluv started out alternative levels of hype and just kept getting better

I didn't even notice the other topic was close to finished.

I've been catching up on Conan again. Really wish they would quit playing games and be honest with Sera, since she already freaking knows and can take care of herself just fine. Though I suppose since she's so close to the case herself, she could potentially go out and do something reckless.

I'll probably watch Tokyo Godfathers tonight or tomorrow; forgot to watch it around Christmas. And I'll be ringing in the new year beating Kingdom Hearts III again. For 2018 I beat KH1 and 2019 I beat Dream Drop Distance.

All I have to say is FUCK the chocobo races.

It is if you want to 100% the game or just want to get the celestial weapons.

I can understand locking the best stuff behind a long sidequest or a tough boss, but gating it behind an obnoxious minigame; like the heavily luck based races, or tedious stuff with an instant lose condition like the lightning dodging, is just bad game design.

Honestly it really wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the godawful ps2 era controls. (Or if the lightning dodging was cumulative instead of consecutive)

I only even remember the lightning dodging. At least it's bullshittery left a lasting impression on me.

I just finished up cautious hero. It had a surprisingly strong finish and S2 hook. Considering the show is essentially one gimmick repeated in different scenarios, I really thought it'd fall off the more episodes I saw but they managed to make it engaging. It's still not like a perfect anime or anything, just a solid watch.

Not sure if I want to finish up shokugeki no souma next or go to vinland saga.

Man, it's so depressing that the year is ending and I'm still no closer to being cured than 8 months ago. My weight continues to drop even though I've slowed it somewhat. I'm down under 150 lbs. I despise the medical system so thoroughly, I probably couldn't design it to be worse. I've been feeling so hot lately and it sucks. It's like my skin is freezing but my core is on fire. Probably months before the important test I need and even then I highly doubt the results will be useful. My GP wants to remove my gallbladder despite the GI and surgeon both saying thats a terrible idea and the GP even said it has no risk or downside. What the fuck? It feels so hopeless like I'm surrounded by incompetent uncaring egomaniacs that can't even be assed to pretend to be good at their jobs.

Picked up a later volume of Ouran HSHC for cheap at a thrift store. Still wishing that we'd see another season to close out the show, but at some point I've got to get around to reading the manga.

In general, that's one thing that always annoyed me about anime -- unless the ongoing manga is super-popular, only part of it winds up getting adapted. Something like Genshiken is a weird case, though, since it had a short first season, then some years later they had 3 OVAs, and then they had a second season (iirc produced by somebody else) that kinda closed out the series despite cutting a lot of stuff because the manga ran a bit further than that.

Yeah this pisses me off. Thankfully in the last few years it's actually gotten a lot better. Nichijou S2 never ;-;

I think if theres one series I could get another full season of it'd be konosuba. So lame that they just stopped adapting it despite there being enough material for like 100 more episodes. A random movie here and there isn't enough.

spiritual successor to subahibi, which- while considered a kamige in jp- did not sell very well at all in english (game takes 8+ hours to get "good" due to the first route being basically lucky star plus yuri before delving into cults, suicide pacts, extreme sexual deviancy, and philosophical meanderings by the second and third routes

Spent a bit of xmas money on the steam sale. Got octopath traveler, yakuza 0, slay the spire, and disgaea 5. I don't think I played disgaea 4 but oh well, it's not like it really matters. Only had to pay 1 dollar for yakuza 0 so that was nice. This is in addition to dragon quest 11 that my friend got me a week ago. A bit sad I won't really have time to play all these right now because monster hunter world iceborne is coming out on PC in 8 days and that'll consume my life for a while. It'd be nice if they gave us all content the console version has on release but I doubt they will.

baldr sky has been either been being fan translated (ixrec) or officially translated (sekai project) for about 9 of the 11~ years it's been out; it was never really a question of will it come out but rather when

it has such an immediate visceral appeal, unlike sca-ji's stuff which is philosophical, slow to start out, and sometimes intentionally revolting (subahibi has multiple h scenes that are meant to elicit nothing but absolute disgust, like bullying leading to the homosexual rape of the point of view character)

i don't actually know if sakura no uta delves into depravity as much as subahibi does, but subahibi doing badly really does not bode well for it regardless

I'm tempted to say FF12 is the best designed jrpg. It kind of nails everything for me. It's got fantastic wilderness, fantastic towns/npc, fantastic party customization, the fucking gambit system which every game should have, a pretty solid story, mostly interesting party members, and a shitload of side content. Theres really nothing it doesn't do well.

The sort of divisive part of the game is the combat though. It's similar to xenoblade if you could tell your party members exactly how to respond to any situation. You basically have an ordered list of AI lines for each character. Stuff like If ally hp < 50%, use cure. It executes the highest line that meets the criteria so at the bottom you probably have something like Always, nearest enemy, attack. You can manually choose actions in combat that will override that but the fun of the game is designing a party setup and gambit list that will handle the enemies in the current zone as well as quickly figuring out a way to counter something that isn't handled by your gambit set up.

I love it but plenty of people absolutely despite it. Also the main character is just kind of along for the ride. Ashe or baltheir are really the main characters but they didn't think that'd be relateable enough so they added in a teen protagonist that has very little connection to the plot. He's not a bad character or anything, just feels like he is far less relevant to whats going on than some of the other party members.

Zodiac Age in particular is EXTREMELY good. But, the game as a whole does have a gigantic flaw; the plot pacing. It's extremely plot heavy in the first few hours then goes super scarce for the rest of the game. I think I remember hearing someone digging around and finding out the halfway point in a dump of the game's main story script was the Tomb of Raithwall. That isn't very far in the game at all.

The other minor flaw I have with Zodiac Age in particular is that it's really easy to lock yourself out of access to stuff entirely because you don't have the right classes. I was a doofus and picked no white mage, so now my access to stuff like protectra/shellra/bravery/faith is super limited. I think I managed to get bravery via esper nodes and can do the same with protectra eventually, but I don't think I'll ever possibly have access to shellra or faith. It's just way too big of a decision to make at points in the game where you really don't know what you want long-term.

Overall, Zodiac Age is vastly superior of vanilla FF12, but a few tweaks (being able to respec classes at a heavy cost mainly... I'd even take losing all points spent on the board you're abandoning) would make it damn near perfect. Gambits are amazing.

Yeah the story pacing isn't the best but I feel like it kinda works. The story serves as a hook and by the time it slows down you are heavily invested in exploration and items and side quests and leveling and all that rpg goodness. Then it wraps up with a fairly solid finish.

I still actually like all the xenoblade games more but each of them has at least one big flaw that holds them back (not enough towns to explore in 1 or x leaves the whole world feeling rather empty, 2 fixes that but has no endgame content outside of the DLC arena that is poorly balanced and the whole rng gacha thing isn't my cup of tea, the story in all 3 also have parts that really piss me off) whereas I really couldn't think of anything like that for FFXII vanilla.

There was a big lack of mods in general, from what I saw. A few texture packs, one or two license board complete overhauls, thats pretty much it.

It's why I didn't enjoy FE:Awakening. It was fun up until marriage but then I felt like I had to fully research exactly what would make the most optimal children and that just sucked me out of the game. It's a flaw I have.

Oh man, I had the exact same problem with FE: Awakening too.

It took me a while to get over it and finish the game eventually, but then Fire Emblem Fates had the system where you can put any skill on any character and that just drove me up the wall trying to hyper-optimize everyone.

Still haven't finished even one route, even though I bought all three.

Looks like the Switch version of FFXII (the one with the sale) actually added a whole bunch of new stuff from the ps4 version.

License Reset Function: By talking to Clan Centurios leader Montblanc in Rabanastre, players can reset and change their party members jobs, allowing them to customize the jobs of their party as desired.

Additional Gambit Sets: Gambits allow players to customize their partys AI. Players can now create three unique sets, allowing players to switch between sets for different situations, such as map exploration or boss fights.

Improved New Game+: Allows users to start the game with party members at level 90 and carry over some items like weapons, magic and gils obtained during previous playthroughs.

Finished up Dr. Stone. Was a nice premise and glad to see it's getting a second season, especially since it ended with a lot of build up. Gonna go for Vinland Saga next. Been eagerly awaiting this one.

yeah that is literally all I'd need to say it's the perfect version of that game. gambit presets was another thing that slipped my mind that i'd really like; one field set (steal, aoe spells), one boss set (high priority on buffs and more freely empty MP and use items), one survivability/utility set (in case I want that character to function as a healer; oftentimes my bushi/monk vaan can just solo heal with just his curaja access) would have saved a lot of headaches. as is I had every character doing a bit of everything and just disabled a tactic slot entirely (like steal/poach) if it wasn't useful for the fight I was doing. led to pretty inefficient gambit sets and often having to manually cure certain debuffs

sucks that i have none of the systems it's on, though :(

So, I did my 5th spark on the last flash gala, since it was discounted by 170 draws and I now have all flash gala characters. Started doing my 6th spark today, but aborted after 100 draws, since I got Vickey. I'm still missing 4 premium gala grands, as well as Mahira, Vajra, and Kumbhira, so I'll spark this banner later when the other zodiacs are available and I have enough draws again. Maybe during the anni events, I'll be able to spark again and get another zodiac.

I'm quite looking forward to tomorrow's 200 draws, though I'm not expecting much. I was super excited to hit my first 100 on the roulette wheel this year and then it got even better with a rps win. I got one SSR in those 200 draws. It was in the first 10 draw too. I was happy to get Morrigna at least, since I'd wanted them. But still, 200 draws and one SSR :(. To add insult to injury the next day I got 30 more draws on that banner and got 0 SSRs lol. I'd be a lot saltier if the flash banner hadn't been so nice. Think that flash banner gave me a 4th eden and a 4th Ixaba as well. Now, if I could ever just pull Agni, I'd be super happy.

Damn, just started watching vinland saga again and it's immediately a powerful episode (episode 14). Such a good show. I wish more anime were like this. Every side story ends up being so engaging and powerful.
