Do you really believe electric vehicles will be prohibitively expensive in 10 years? They're also still be able to buy used vehicles, which is why there's a second date further in the future for banning the sale of gas.

It doesnt matter if theyre expensive or not, asking someone to take on debt when they have car that works perfectly fine doesnt sit well with me. Im not well read on situation either so Im assuming they have to have some policy in place for lower income people

they probably don't need to have a specific program to help alleviate the hardship associated with switching vehicle types because they have more generous general income supports and social programs

they're not going to build a fuckton of new infrastructure in remote, countryside areas for a bunch of poor people whose primary mode of transportation is a gas-guzzling shitbucket from the 90's

and as for the environmental aspect, you could delete sweden from existence and the effect it would have on emissions on a global scale would be a fraction of a fraction of a percent, so the "we're saving the world!" point is null and void

Hope the electric cars are as affordable by then. They're not now.

lmao BC Hydro is a crown corporation it's cheaper than anything private would ever be.

Manitoba Hydro, a crown corporation, supplies all energy in Manitoba, and guess what? Manitoba has some of the cheapest rates in North America.

Diesel is already prohibitively expensive in the UK, for starters. It costs me like $10 to drive for 20 minutes in fuel alone.

I won't pretend that this is gonna save the world, but it's a step in the right direction

Like others have mentioned, Sweden has a healthy mass transit system and more regular access to alternative fuels

No single step will somehow fix all environmental problems.

It's definitely an improvement. I'm glad options like these are on the table, and I hope it pushes other governments to take similar action. Even if the exact same change won't be very likely for some countries, like U.S., that doesn't mean there can't be environmental improvements in other areas.

Radical liberalization of marijuana laws would help.
It sucks CO2 right out of the air, and converts it into useful fiber and fun. Any flowers burned for entertainment will put out far less CO2 than what's trapped in the rest of the plant.

I feel people tend to overthink, or oversell these issues sometimes.

It is completely reasonable to realize that fewer emissions on the ground level are better for anyone living in the area. It's that simple. Local Air Quality.

I like to Walk, this time of the year, or take a bike ride up to the store, for like a beer run.
I wouldn't say it's a workout, but it's nice little exercise outing.
It all feels good, and relaxing, until a diesel powered truck comes by and you get hit with that unignorable diesel exhaust. It's so noticeably unhealthy.

Save your locality first, the earth will come with it.
