they're also tentatively talking about a sales ban for gasoline and diesel fuels as well, though no estimated year for that

I wish the whole world would ban fossil fuels. We probably could be in a great spot to do that if corporations and governments hadn't been actively suppressing climate science and alternative fuel technology for decades.

Lololol yeah that'll work for a country that'll fit twice into a single Canadian province, or Texas.
Won't change shit.

This is all just politicians now, trying to do something that'll look good for the future, which has no effect on them now.

That's a marked improvement from egging on climate change for profit since they will be dead in the future.

There's probably numerous politicians working on this that plan to still be in politics in 2030, not to mention that if they do pass a law like this it will for sure impact them as well.

Do you really believe electric vehicles will be prohibitively expensive in 10 years? They're also still be able to buy used vehicles, which is why there's a second date further in the future for banning the sale of gas.

It doesnt matter if theyre expensive or not, asking someone to take on debt when they have car that works perfectly fine doesnt sit well with me. Im not well read on situation either so Im assuming they have to have some policy in place for lower income people

they're essentially killing off the countryside, since there are areas that don't have access to charging stations for electric cars and where power outages are frequent enough that you'd need a gas generator as a backup

they're not going to build a fuckton of new infrastructure in remote, countryside areas for a bunch of poor people whose primary mode of transportation is a gas-guzzling shitbucket from the 90's

and as for the environmental aspect, you could delete sweden from existence and the effect it would have on emissions on a global scale would be a fraction of a fraction of a percent, so the "we're saving the world!" point is null and void

If gas was banned in BC/Vancouver, we would be forced to get all energy from BC Hydro, theyd have a monopoly on all energy. Thats way too much power to have.

We are already only allowed to buy car insurance from one providers and its corrupt and fucking horrible

And no, mutiple electricity providers will not happen here, dont come back with that

The government also heavily relies on gasoline taxes, sales taxes werent temporary, property taxes werent temporary. The government isnt going to give up the gas tax money either

lmao BC Hydro is a crown corporation it's cheaper than anything private would ever be.

Manitoba Hydro, a crown corporation, supplies all energy in Manitoba, and guess what? Manitoba has some of the cheapest rates in North America.

People are so quick to naysay all of this stuff as if the people actually implementing it havent given the it the same 15 seconds of armchair quarterback thinking they did.

Diesel is already prohibitively expensive in the UK, for starters. It costs me like $10 to drive for 20 minutes in fuel alone.

No single step will somehow fix all environmental problems.

It's definitely an improvement. I'm glad options like these are on the table, and I hope it pushes other governments to take similar action. Even if the exact same change won't be very likely for some countries, like U.S., that doesn't mean there can't be environmental improvements in other areas.

Radical liberalization of marijuana laws would help.
It sucks CO2 right out of the air, and converts it into useful fiber and fun. Any flowers burned for entertainment will put out far less CO2 than what's trapped in the rest of the plant.

I feel people tend to overthink, or oversell these issues sometimes.

I doesn't have to be about saving the earth.
It is completely reasonable to realize that fewer emissions on the ground level are better for anyone living in the area. It's that simple. Local Air Quality.

I like to Walk, this time of the year, or take a bike ride up to the store, for like a beer run.
I wouldn't say it's a workout, but it's nice little exercise outing.
It all feels good, and relaxing, until a diesel powered truck comes by and you get hit with that unignorable diesel exhaust. It's so noticeably unhealthy.

Save your locality first, the earth will come with it.

Diesel exhaust isn't as bad as gasoline exhaust if the dude didn't delete his truck.

That unignorable smell is the DEF system doing its job, making that exhaust less poisonous.
