wtf. How come I never heard of this movie?! Anyone see it? Is it actually good? Or is it just an Oscar bait, like Birdman (another "one-shot" movie)?

(I understand it's actually not one-shot, but give an illusion that it's one-shot (e.g., hidden cuts))

It got a super small limited release but it's coming out in most of the US on January 10th I believe.

I think the UK might have already got it.

Ohh, I wasn't even aware of this.
Is it in theaters now?

This is actually something I would go to see.
WWI does not get enough love....
I still haven't seen War Horse, I'm afraid of the number of onions I would peel.

But I have a huge soft sport for WWI.

Hell the only FPS games I ever played are WWI.

It hasnt been released yet in most regions. It being a one shot style film makes me both interested and uninterested at the same time for some reason.

Ya, I just checked mine and it's not playing here...not yet anyway.

Still though, this is on my 'To Watch' list now.
Thank you, TC!

Ironically I just ended a few rounds in Verdun, so there ya go.
Alls Quiet on The Western Front is one of my favorite Novels/movies of all.
And I do mean both, most film adaptations a very respectful of the novel.

Didnt they say Birdman was one shot but turned out not to be?

Theres a scene in the 1917 trailer where the two soldiers enter a dark bunker, I bet that shot of complete darkness is where one cut is.

I want to see this, but yeah... anything remotely close isn't showing it and I don't want to go out of state for a movie when the drive time would be greater than the movie length.

Guess I'll wait until the wider release or post theater, though would prefer theater for this one.

It's a limited release to ensure it meets the deadline for Oscars submission. The actual release is in January

If it's a limited release, Wiki/Google summary will tell you it's a limited release and have an actual release date. Hell, it tells you it was released in London, but will be released in UK at a later date.

Special effects and things like walking into dark alleys to create an opportunity to allow a cut.

Sorry, I just saw this.
No, I have not seen any of those, in general, I am completely out of the loop when it comes to new movies.

Good to see WWI getting some love.
I just don't have Nexflix or anything, so I find out about this stuff late, if at all.

I mean contemporary as in they're from WWI era. Some incorporate actual war footage. Well worth a look if you're interested.

Oh...gottcha.

No that sounds interesting. I have seen WWI in color, and that sort of thing.
But nothing that old...and a movie type thing.

There is a movie that had actual WWI planes in it though, and even that was cool to see.
It's a big movie, but the Title is alluding me now. I remember a scene in a Zepplin were people more or less commit suicide to keep the Zepplin afloat.

I go to the movies fairly frequently and had seen the trailer for weeks (months?) now. Only recently did I catch that it's one-shot. Seems odd they didn't highlight that more

It not really one shot. There are takes, they just did it in real-time, as I understand it.
In a way it's too bad that has become the conversation about this movie for some.

I do not disagree with you Toast.

They actually come out and mention some of the cuts, in some of the prerelease videos.
By one take, they meant, real-time.

There is no way a film like this could be done in one take.

And yup, the first film in a decade I really want to see in theaters.
