Shes about 8 months old now, and only ever eaten dry kitten food. Im thinking of switching it up just to give her a bit of variety now and then.

Anything inherently wrong with wet food? Heard it can make her poop stink more? Can it make diarrhoea more likely also? Or is there literally no probs with wet food?

just worried cos I used to give her treat milk every weekend, but then she had some pretty bad diarrhoea one weekend so I kinda had to stop. Dont wanna make the same mistake with wet food

Wet food is fine but I only give it to my cats as an occasional treat

like any relationship, keep their expectations low, the second you raise that bar there's no going back, ok?

I've always given kittens/cats wet food with a bit of dry ontop. Never had any issues.

Its actually better to give your cat or dog wet food.

The only con con would be if you buy some bargain basement shit.

Dry food is not good for them in general but dogs can tolerate tolerate dry food better. Still dogs should have wet food or actual meat.

Cats are harder cause they are carnivores and dry food is often infused with wheat or carbohydrates and such which is harder for them to digest but not as bad as vegetables for cats.

dogs its just flat out better but not harmful.

I like to give my cat both wet and dry. But my little one won't eat wet food anymore. When she was a kitten she ate wet food. Then I slowly started to switch it out for dry food. Then she started eating only drying food. And she won't even touch the wet food anymore.

My dogs, on the other hand, love wet food. And anything like it...

Your cats coat will stay softer if you feed it wet food. Especially while it's young. I feed mine about a 1/4 of a 6 oz tin over a bowl of dry food every night for "dinner."

As other poster said its much better for their health in general. Just make sure to get something with real ingredients and not byproducts or anything with the word "meal" on the end.

Wet food is generally better, with some exceptions.

The exceptions being, if it's 10 for $1 dollar store garbage. Don't do that. Or if it has something your cat is allergic to, which you'd have to know beforehand, but if it did turn out they're allergic to something, probably don't feed them that again.

Otherwise, yes, it's far better than just dry food. For cats it matters more, due to them being hella carnivores, but for dogs (and cats) it's better for their teeth. You try chewing hard pieces of dry food with fangs, it's also easier to eat, but it also makes them not have to drink as much water, since they don't have to supplement the dry food with liquid.

There's a lot of wrong, and terrible information being posted here. Unless you intend on brushing your pet's teeth daily, don't switch to wet food. Dry food is beneficial to the long term health of their teeth, will scrape off plaque and keep their dental health ideal throughout their life. I've been a cat owner for 38 years, I worked as a pet store manager for 8 years. If you want your pet to have it's teeth relatively white and healthy into it's senior years, do not put it on a wet food diet.

I had a cat live to 19 years old on a premium dry food diet his entire life. My mother in law swore by wet food for her cat, and it had maybe 6 teeth left at age 8, and they were brown and decaying. Just make sure the dry food contains a reasonable amount of taurine.

Excessive wet food can result in more urinal and kidney problems also.

A lot of previous posters will now blast me i'm sure, but i'd advise consulting with a professional veterinarian and not Gamefaqs and you'll find my information is accurate.

all of it in your post

ask your vet. Brush your cat or dogs teeth. Dry food is just a lazy less healthy option for your pet.

Seems to me that the modern day policy is just to promote the lazy.

I give my cats both. The biggest cons in my opinion are the price as the cans do add up and are more expensive than dry food plus the smell. I swear they're made to smell as bad as possible

Ad nauseum.

No vet would say dry food helps an animals teeth, because it literally doesn't.

Never have a once brushed any of my cats teeth when I had them and they always had great teeth. Although I did mix both wet and dry so they got the benefits of both.

I tend to lean towards a dry food diet. I've had cats all my life, raised dozens, domesticated ferals to shelter cats. Most of my cats were raised exclusively on dry food and were generally healthy. Over the last 5 years, I've switched to giving 50% wet diet and have notice that ,with the corresponding batch of cats, dental problems have become more present. While this is not evidence enough, it is something I'm keeping an eye on.

one "con" may be the smell. I always know right away when my brother feeds the cat, due to the strong smell that I can detect from rooms away.
