The one that sticks out was an Indie game called A Knight's Quest. I got through the tutorial and wasn't really feeling it, and once I got to the first city and saw what it had in terms of world building I walked away and never touched it again.

wasn't a purchase I actually made but I received Hello Neighbor as a present (per my own request) and horribly regretted ever mentioning it

This but I'm okay with the character writing, but the gameplay loop is so repetitive it makes combat a non-factor and platforming is painfully linear with no strong sense of reward for completing it or mastery, just "hey look we can be clever with our mechanics". Leaves no incentive for combat, interacting with enemies, or to look forward to level design. Woefully undercooked in every single department other than the audio and art style, and even then animation bugs a plenty.

I've made too many dumb purchases this year on games to really regret any single one. Finding unexpected diamonds like 428 Shibuya Scramble and CrossCode, or falling for older games I'd never heard of like Risen or never been recommended like Dragon Quest VI, has made the whole thing worth it still.

Don't know how well my Winter Sale purchases will stack up. Kind of regretting the majority, but the sales were too good.

And once I get a PC that can handle higher end gaming, I can finally play a bunch of titles sitting there waiting to be opened and played (Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex Mankind Divided).

I dont regret any purchases for being bad games, but I regret a purchase I made yesterday cuz I should be saving money instead of spending it. FF7, FF8, and FF9 on Switch were impulse sale purchases yesterday and I have no idea when Ill even play them lol

But that's just because I bought it, put in JUST over 2 hours, and then realized it was on the PC Game Pass.

And Shield is toeing the line of being a regret.

Putting Money on Steam and getting errors for multiple days because for some reason Steam is screwed up and won't accept funds currently on Steam when purchasing (maybe as a gift, dunno, will check shortly if it's for me too).

Yes, that's literally it for me because I haven't purchased a game this year.

Ehh, Sonic Team Racing. I had a good few hours of fun with it, but probably not enough to justify the purchase though.

Jump Force (One of the most shallow fighting games ever)

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (It was so 1 to 1 that I wasnt as thrilled)

Shakedown Hawaii (remember the fun game references? Well thats all gone enjoy an entire game making the same old people dont get technology and companies are scum jokes that aren't funny. Remember the fun missions? oh those are very gone)

I spent 300 gold coins on Reigns: Game of Thrones, made one attempt, saw how uninteresting the choices were, and haven't gone back. No actual money has been wasted this year thankfully.

Jump Force was pretty terrible, but the worst purchase I made was definitely Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, and I'm usually a huge fan of weird dungeon crawlers. I couldn't find anything good out of this game at all.

My initial instinct was to say Anthem because a friend talked some of us into playing and the game was pretty horrible.

But worst purchase is going to go to Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. A game(well, expansion) we didn't even know that we had finished the campaign for when we finished the campaign.

While I've found Dragon Quest XI more than worth the $40 I spent on it several months ago, as it turns out, I could have waited just a few weeks to buy it for $30 instead. Since I didn't play it in the intervening period, that makes my itchy trigger finger the closest thing I have to a gaming purchase regret this year.

good god, one of the worst things I've ever played

This is one of my kids favorite games and we bought it for him earlier this year. I play it for him sometimes and it is borderline unplayable. Horrendously programmed, and I absolutely agree that it is one of the worst games of all time. Not even an exaggeration. Nothing about this game is remotely entertaining.

Of games that I purchased and then actually played, I'd probably say Dragon Quest XI. Not because I didn't enjoy my time with it, but because I bought it after playing the Switch Demo knowing full well that I wasn't going to get anywhere close to finishing it and lo and behold I completed the first area after the demo ends and haven't gone back to it because the RPG part of my brain is broken.

Code Vein is my closest thing to a regret. I'm pretty careful with purchases generally. It's good enough to finish, but not enough to care, and I think it's too wonky to recommend anyone ever actually bother playing.
