I have been watching the youtube series where James May has been making sandwiches from the 70s and every single one gets butter. Never tried it, but at the same time not sure if I want to.

Yes. It tastes better for me with most sandwiches. A tuna sandwich for example is great with butter.

I think its a European thing. When I was in Europe almost every sandwich I ordered had butter in it. At first I thought it was weird but its way better than mayo so

Get a butter dish and leave it out. Margarine is terrible for the body.

Hard?

Are you keeping your butter on the fridge?

Butter is usually very creamy. Not as much as Margarine, of course, but i's not "hard", unless you keep it on the fridge (or you live in a very cold climate).

Here where I live, I actually have the opposite issue: because of the summer heat (and yes, it's summer in here), the butter gets almost liquid if I leave it on my kitchen.

You can make your own spreadable butter by softening a stick of butter (don't melt it), cutting it into pieces, then mixing in 1/3 cup of good quality oil using a fork until it's well blended. Put it in a plastic or glass container with a lid and refrigerate.

You can double, triple or even quadruple this recipe if you use a lot of butter. You can also blend it in a food processor, mixer or blender; it's faster this way but leaves you with more stuff to wash.

You can add herbs, spices, sugar, salt, food coloring or other ingredients while you're mixing it to make flavored or colored butter.

This is the only case for me as well. I only ever put butter on bread if I'm making grilled cheese, or eating bread & butter with spaghetti or something.

I don't even butter toast. Or most things. When I use butter at all it's usually for cooking rather than as a spread on pancakes or waffles or whatever.

It's not an either/or choice. You can in fact eat sandwiches with neither butter nor mayo.

I'm not him, but I kinda disagree.

I mean, butter tastes like heaven! Mayonnaise makes the sandwich more "creamy", but the taste isn't all that special.

That said, mayonnaise AND butter would be the better option. ;)

It wasn't bad. But it wasn't nearly easy good as with butter.

Mayo vs butter for a grilled cheese seems more of a personal choice than one being inherently better than the other.
