im a Brit who doesnt pay much attention to US politics. What are the different levels? Is it House of Representatives, the senate... and something else?

which one is higher? And which one has final say on whether he gets convicted once it goes to trial?

House of Representatives -> House of the Senate -> Oval Office

House of Representatives is voting today. If approved, it goes to trial, and then once done, it goes to the Senate where it requires 2/3rds votes on one or more articles. If this fails to pass, Trump is acquitted.

How are representatives and senators appointed?

and the Oval Office is just the president himself?

Representatives are voted on based on population but the districts are gerrymandered to hell in favor of republicans.

Senate is 2 per state for a total of 100 senators decided by popular vote by the state.

Oh okay so does a governor report to the two senators of the state or do state governors report to the senators? Or is that a completely different hierarchy

Governors are the executive level of each state. The Senators are part of the federal government, but there are also state senates under the governor.

Only in some states. And in many other states, districts are gerrymandered to hell in favor of Democrats. This notion that only Republicans use gerrymandering is wildly dishonest.
