Never played it. Im not too excited about it, but it was given to me as a gift so I am willing to give it a try from beginning to the end, and hopefully I can get blown away. Let's see what the hype is all about.

Expect MGS2 levels of weirdness, but trust in Yoko Taro because the end will be worth it

I would suggest watching Clemps on youtube going through thr Drakengard series and the first Nier game to get a feeling for the game story and world. The Drakengard ones arent that neccesary but I was glas I did watch them.

Yes. First Nier game is kinda a sequel to a joke ending to the first Drakengard IIRC or was it the second or something. Its weird. Clemps is entertaining so even if it will take a long to to watch them all they made me enjoy Automata more.

With that said you can get the main story without knowing anything from the other games.

Did you get it on the Xbox? If so the DLC is already included in the game.

as someone that doesnt know a single goddamn thing about the first nier, i thoroughly enjoyed my time playing automata and loved every single second of it. definitely on my top five favorite games of all time. i dont really have any advice except for....allow yourself to be emotionally invested. the payoff is worth it

Only advice is that the first save point is about 30 minutes into the game so if you die it's right back to the beginning. If you do die please don't let it put you off. Once you get past the first area I don't think there are any examples of being that far between save points.

I went in blind and enjoyed it a good bit. There are a bunch of endings and the first time you beat it isnt the full story. I tried to learn about the previous games after and it left me more confused honestly.

I came into this game with no knowledge of the game. Never finished because I rage quit at the end of my first playthrough fighting a giant mech spider. Had an awesome time reveling in the story up to that point though.

Eh, I only suspected something. And even if you saw that humanity was long gone there was plenty other things that you could not have seen coming in only 10 minutes. Hell, I would honestly say that that ISN'T the big reveal at all.

1.Game reminds me of Xenosaga and Galaga. I love Xenosaga and Galaga.

2. 2B is too sexy. Perhaps too sexy. I find ot quit distracting. Is she kind of like Alita?

3. So far so good. I dont have anything negative to say about the game.....yet

I see. Such an act, so much feeling. Though, I don't imagine she'd agree with a non-mission related objective like that. Not to mention she could stop you from taking her down.

I personally am not a fan of the bulletstorm bosses of the game, the drone pod does next to no appreciable damage. The mech bulletstorm sections are the exception, I do like those.
As for 2b, the Androids were designed by humans, humans love waifu.

This is the biggest lie about the game and I dont know why so many people spread it. Ill tag this spoilers but Ill keep it pretty spoiler free

there are five routes in the game labeled A through E. Route A is the bulk of the game. Route B is the conclusion of route A but from your side kicks perspective. Route C is the conclusion of what happens after Routes A and B. After route C you have a choice... one leads to route D and the other to Route E.

So yeah, the notion you have to play multiple times is false.

No, it's true. First time you play through as 2B, then you play the same story through a second time from the perspective of 9S. Then you start a third time, alternating between A2 and 9S. If it was one playthough, you would only see the game's end credit sequences once.

Behind that hell of an answer though there's a little more depth. Yoko Taro answered that the game is set 10,000 years in the future, so when he tried to imagine what it would be like, he thought about how it was 10,000 years ago, and people back then probably would not have been able to imagine what it would be like nowadays. Thats why he decided to think freely and willfully about it. Since a lot of western games feature space marines and that kind of concept, he let his ideas flow freely and came up with a girl wearing heels in the future. Androids saw humans with their fancy clothing and high heels and sought to emulate that design, not fully understanding the purpose or utility. Yet, the biggest reason is simply that he just really likes girls.

Death Stranding has like three sets of credits in the game so Im not sure thats an decent rationale for counting how many times you play the game.

I think the point the other gent was trying to make or at least the point as I interpreted it and agree with is that having to play through a game multiple times to get the real ending is often seen as a negative thing and a criticism. I took the post as pointing out that yes there is more gameplay after you complete it for the first time but that its not accurate to say youre replaying the same game verbatim as there are differences and hes just pointing out those differences.

Completely random, but I remember someone complaining about how the game was sexist because 2B wears high heels which would be impractical in combat and were only put in for looks. Then someone brought up how that person completely overlooked the blindfold lol

I thought it was in interesting way of maintaining replayablity. It's a mechanic that probably wouldn't work for every game, but it worked well in this one.

One of a handful of games I can think that actually used the medium of video games well to craft a story. Most games stories would work just as well in another medium, this one wouldn't.

Part 1 is fantastic, part 2 is godawful part 3 is great

Its very good. But pretty much a PS3 game. Bayonetta and DMC have better combat. The enemies are like stumps to hack at.
