There's a good chance we'll live for centuries.

The weird thing is they can reverse aging. They've done it on mice, they cured their blindness.

Screw dying, let's just never reproduce. (Lol, as if we had that kind of coordination)

Also if I'm understanding this right, it would reverse the effects of aging, so cells that were previously sitting around doing the wrong thing would revert and repair, making old people not such miserable sacks of death.

Ok, so we wait 50 years and then release the cure.

That way we can stop global warming and prevent extinction.

Also, I think old people might start giving more of a shit about the future of the planet if they have a possibility of facing their consequences.

They mentioned that in the video, but this is about new research that's been successful in slowing stopping and reversing aging in mice by giving them hormones to put their cells into overdrive repair mode.

Turritopsis Dohrnii was mentioned because it has the ability to revert its cells to stem cells, which would kill a human, but does show some potential.

I would actually be... really ok with this.

Im only 31, but I just feel like theres not enough time in a regular lifespan. Ive spent my entire post-high school life slaving away at some shitty job, and even if I manage to turn things around, Ill be closer to my mid-30s. Idk it just feels like I should be doing better at this point.

I also completely missed the boat on dating. Never had much luck with women, and what woman is going to have the patience for someone like me? I just wish I had more time.

Also, working in a grocery store has definitely made me afraid of getting older too. The elderly are pretty much brain dead, and Im not looking forward to ending up that way.

Everything would probably change, though, right? Like slowing down aging would probably mean puberty happens later? And would kids have to go to school for extra years? And Idk why, but I feel like things maybe more expensive.

That being said, taking out a loan could end up being better. You can take one out for longner because you lifespan has increased. And they may make it easier to do so. Idk...

Its not all bad. 31 is still somewhat younger. Some people get into dating when theyre older. But no matter how much time you have, its usually not enough.

1) They're not physically healthy, they're already infirm
2) That's just millions, which is tiny.
3) If aging wasn't an issue, we wouldn't need elderly homes at all.

The implication being that we shouldn't do positive things because they could have a downside. If humanity kept that attitude, humans would only live to about 30 or 40 and have QoLs worse than most third-world nations.

Oh, and keep in mind that social security and elder care are among society's largest expenses. If aging stopped being a problem, much of that would go away. Likewise, portions of the population with obsolete skill sets would be in a position where they could simply pick up a new trade instead of going on social safety nets until start receiving social security.

Not to mention that it stops a massive brain drain. It takes a relatively long time for individuals to rise to the top of their respective fields and their contributions inevitability end as infirmity and age-related death take effect. If our greatest geniuses had a few hundred more years of life, imagine what else they might have created.

The only really large drawback is the accumulation of wealth which would become a major issue in this system without an aggressive progressive tax plan where money is taken from the rich to fund vital public works (rather than just padding a social safety net so people don't have to work).

I find it cute that you're so self-assured despite being so very wrong. However, my original statement remains true, considering that the problems aren't the result of overpopulation. Even with smaller populations, those exact same problems would exist unless you're specifically getting rid of everybody already in those circumstances and then offing anybody who falls into those circumstances (at which point it *still* wouldn't be an overpopulation problem)

Not to mention there will be people that go get something like 50 degress from college if they will live hundreds of years and so you won't have a chance in hell of moving up.

everything would change

it would be such a fundamental shift in biology and society that no real predictions could be made based on human history up to this point

having said that I dont think theres any way to ever make living beings actually biologically immortal. Even if they arent aging cells will eventually break down after decades of replicating themselves and eventually the brain would break down and quit no matter how healthy the rest of the body was
