"Just the fact that there's a time limit hovering over me... takes all the fun away."
"[the time limit] actually has no reason to be there. I mean, give me a reason! A time limit in a Zelda game!?"

I don't know if he's complaining for complaining's sake here or if AVGN is really that clueless. The time limit is absolutely integral and foundational to what makes MM great. Yes it creates some gameplay challenges that aren't to everyone's tastes, but nothing that he says he likes about the game would be possible without it. At least he gives a more balanced assessment at the end.
No. The time limit could be completely removed and the game would stay the absolute same. All it is, is an annoying mechanic to hide limitations of the N64.

I disagree. If you wait until the night of the final day, and you don't get a game over, then it's an entirely different game.

Wow, pleasantly surprised by his review!

Never liked MM, always felt like a super unpopular opinion. But he nailed how annoying and tedious the game play and time countdown mechanics (including waiting around for specific times of the day and starting over if you miss one for a quest) are.
Yeah, the dark atmosphere and setting are great, but the game itself is not good.

Nice to see someone who agrees w/ me. He was less harsh on Zelda II than he was on MM, which was like a cherry on top. :)

And if he thought that was annoying, he should try it on the GC on the Zelda collection disc, like I experienced it. Glitches (and fairly common ones, apparently) that crash/freeze the game are NOT ACCEPTABLE in a game where you have such limited ability to save!!!

I actually agreed with a lot of what he said. In my opinion, there are great parts to the game, but it isnt a great game... its simply decent.

The 3DS remake fixed that by allowing the Song of Double Time to warp you to any hour you wanted, instead of just the next dawn/dusk.

Why the hell would you do that to yourself? I love Majora's Mask - it's hands down my favourite Zelda game and one of my favourite games of all time - but even I couldn't bring myself to get through that horrible, horrible port.

The game is flawed even though it used to be my favorite Zelda (it changed to A Link Between Worlds and currently Cadence of Hyrule). However he over exaggerates them and makes up completely new ones that arent there if you play the game properly.

That being said, AVGN is a character and I know to expect this. It was still a good episode, though I wish he highlighted the positive qualities more

Well, I didn't know it was that bad. Nintendo up to that point was pretty well known for their "polish." Very rare for their first party games, especially a major franchise, to have glaring, let alone game-breaking, bugs.

Never owned an N64, just played on my friends' consoles sometimes, it didn't have enough to offer for me. So the GC port was my first crack at OoT and MM, and it permanently soured me on MM.

The fact that MM is old enough for AVGN to do a video on it is kind of alarming.

Absolutely not. The time limit is what gives the game the atmosphere that makes it great, single-handedly defining the way the characters develop and interact with the player and each other. Take away that premise and you've got a completely different game.

I know its popular to say the N64s graphics havent aged well. I strongly disagree with this. I think Ocarina and Majoras Mask look phenomenal even today.

They really have. Just goes to show what good art direction can do. The Banjo games have also aged pretty well.

Some of his complaints are valid like the Goron is garbage. But most of the problems he brings up are him either being bad at the game, or he just sets himself up for failure.

My least favorite Zelda by far and I agree with a lot of what he says. But it's still a good game. I can recognize that.

Him resetting time for no real reason right before fighting the boss in the Great Bay temple gotta be the single most dumbest thing he has ever done.

There is still a chance to defeat the boss in 5 minutes just fight the damn thing.

Also I did play Majoras Mask on the collection disc on GC and I never had the game freeze on me.
Was the PAL/EU version more stable than the NTSC/US version?

I can't say for others, but my launch day US cart had a VERY high chance of freezing in the Great Bay Temple.
