Just a typical teenagers at high school anime (sorry for not knowing the proper word for this) with an "everyone has magic" twist. It's not shaking up any new ground, but it also doesn't do anything bad. Bible is a neat protaganist, her being the strongest mage at the end is a twist you see coming from literally the first episode, but the path that the show takes to get there at least has some decent characterisation. --- ... Steins;Gate So I vaguely recall this had a video game and maybe a movie just came out? I think I saw people say on twitter. I haven't been super up to date on Steins;Gate for a while because honestly, I just didn't care. Robots have really interesting places you can take them, the idea of them having souls or not, whether they can be property, making the robots of your series, "Hey we're human, but in metal shells" and not exploring them in any great detail is just dull. Like, why even bother? I know the answer to this by the way, it's "RoBotS aRe cOoL!!!" I gave up around the wedding episode, so... however long ago that was. Maybe they actually have a decent narrative after that, but I wasn't going to stick around long enough to find out. Emeraldegg posted... gurren lagann Hey! I mock with love of course, because while the character designs are hackneyed as possible, the actual characters are really good. If you're willing to look past the fanservice, Marina and Hai have probably the best lesbian romance plot in all of anime and the fight scenes are really well animated. It's not the funniest show and I think it could have thrown in more grittiness with regards the prison arc, but I liked it for what it was. Solid 8/10 ish show. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

General Sinstra is one of the best examples of trope subversion I've experienced in a long time. She's got the tall white woman, unnaturally large boobs, long blonde hair thing going for her and then she's this timid mouse of a character who ended up General of the entire Warrior nation. The obscene amount of work gravity must be doing when their "uniforms" get cut up during combat is hilarious but for all that, I kind of like BW. It knows what it's working for and doesn't try to push for any deep, meaningful content which is fine. It's not trying to present itself that way. I would use the word "romp" to describe it, but the double meaning is awkward. Bubbly fun. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Big O is a black teen from america, so this being anime, he watches his parents die and then swears revenge on the men that killed them. In order to do this, he needs... to play basketball. This gives him the support and funds to confront the evil and also, the murderers were bankrolled by a Basketball team owner. Racial overtones aside, this was actually pretty great. Suspend some disbelief and watch a fun anime where a basketballer moonlights just enough as a vigilante to allow him to rip off someone else's head and dunk it through (literally through) another man's head, dropping them both into the second guys stomach. Maniac64 posted... Devil is a part timer. Devil is a part timer's Satan is one of the most relatable characters in all of anime. He's worked a lot of hours and he's just fucking done. He approaches Marinara to offer her the job instead - he's seen from hell that she has a lot of potential. But... she wants to finish high school. They agree she'll do the job part time. Awesome fights with upstart demons and torturing people are balanced by her ordinary life, looking after her 4 year old sister, (where are her parents anime writers???) doing homework and trying to get the cute boys to look at her. 9.6/10 anime, flawless execution of a great idea. It's like Batman, except with a scantily dressed woman who throws buttarangs and doesn't punch people, she buttslaps them. The monster of the week style combined with the fact that the stories aren't about Punisher Girl mean that the one season it got was honestly more than it deserved. Bane_Of_Despair posted... My Roomate is a Cat So the plot for My Roomate is dull as fuck. It just is. Nothing ever happens. It's slice of life and the life in question is just... empty. However, every even numbered episode shows the previous episode, but from Pepper the cat's perspective. He narrates, gets into mischief and is an excellent character. It's just a shame that half the episodes exist purely to show you Pepper in odd situations and places without any explanation to set up the next episode. Cut all of those episodes out completely and this would be great. I can't, with good conscionsce however, recommend anything that is half absolute paint drying. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
