For at least some versions of Spider-Man, it's implied that the knowledge and skill necessary to create the web fluid and web shooters in the first place was itself part of his powers - basically, the spider-ness he got from the bite included a sort of subconscious understanding of how to chemically create webbing like a spider would.

It also helps explain why he didn't bother to invent it beforehand (and thus make a ton of money, helping his family), and why none of the other super-geniuses in the Marvel universe have ever bothered inventing anything similar (considering all the incredibly valuable uses it could have for normal people).

Then again, it's also been implied at various points that being a super-genius in the Marvel universe is itself a super-power regardless, so even "normal" characters like Tony Stark or Hank Pym are borderline mutants.

I would say infinite wishes but I'll play along and automatically assume that's off the table.

Eternal life would mean I can't be killed. Anything that seems like death will be ignored so my limbs would grow back. I'll just pop my head right back on.

I'm not gonna put in much thought, lets see...

1) Ability to fly
2) Have a Chess Elo/Rating of 2900
3) Detect lies

1. Ability to change shape whether or not exist- That way I can turn into Various Pokemon and stuff
2. Ability to travel between in universe, reality or alternate dimension whether or not exist and this would include travelling inside of dreams as well- Then I would be able to travel between the Pokemon World and others.
3. And probably make so that whatever I turn into on the shapeshifting I gain the power of whoever I turned into so if I turned Yveltal I would be able to use Yveltal's power in that form, and if I wanted to use Dialga's power I would have to turn into Dialga. As far as turning into a dragon goes, my power for that would likely be to the dragon I seem to end up in dreams that have which I would be able to control darkness, create illusions, change shape, breath fire and poison. Although Darkness is its strongest element since it is primarily a dark element dragon and that dragon is also capable of seeing past and future related events at random.

I also been both Yveltal and Dialga before in dreams as well and know how much power both of them have.

Pretty much would have everything I would want and wouldn't need anything else.
Although if I do travel between worlds that don't exist I wonder if that would cause them to exist.

I would fix this world. Completely.

I might go mad in the process. After a few decades. Kinda lose touch with humanity. With myself. Who I was before the wishes. In which case....I'd probably just fly away. Chill on the moon for a while. Maybe fly into a black hole and kill myself.

But I would do a LOT of good in my time. As much as I possibly can.

No elves are ageless, not immortal.

Ageless implies that you never get old and cannot die of natural causes (usually, but not always, including disease and other infirmities). Immortality, by the purest definition of the word, is complete immunity from death in any way shape or form. You cannot die, cannot be killed, cannot end your own existence.

Depends on how sensitive the genie is. In some stories you actually have to wish with intent rather than just say "I wish". On the flip-side, the moment you even think the word wish you're committing to it, or sometimes even subconscious wishes count.

Assuming you can actually qualify wishes, it wouldn't be that difficult to say something like "Infinite wishes, but they only count if I wish out loud and then snap my fingers" or something.

Though then you have to worry how much of an asshole your genie is - he may start trying to think of ways to reinterpret your wishes to wish you into a bird or something that doesn't have hands so you can't snap.

If you've got one of the asshole genies, what you really need to worry about is that immortality doesn't even include agelessness. That one goes all the way back to Greek mythology, where Zeus granted immortality to someone, and they just kept getting older and older and older and withering away even as they lived forever.

Immortality just means you don't die of old age, though. It doesn't even mean you CAN'T age. You're thinking more of adding invulnerability or some kind of ridiculously overpowered regenerative healing factor into the mix.

The problem with eternal life in general though is that you dramatically increase your odds of getting buried alive or trapped somewhere for all eternity, with no possible means of escape or suicide, because you cannot die. Then over a long enough time scale, you start to run into problems like eternal boredom, watching everyone and everything you've ever loved die, and on a long enough time scale, the sun burning out and you being trapped forever on a scorched lifeless chunk of rock in a dead universe.

And that's not even taking into account that even if you're immortal and invulnerable, you presumably still feel pain, so drowning is still extremely uncomfortable (you can't breathe water, you just can't die from drowning, but you're still drowning), you presumably still suffer from starvation and dehydration pains, if you fell into the sun you'd still be burning to death more or less forever until the sun itself went out, etc.

You realize none of this is all that different from a normal, non-immortal life, right?

You have to watch your friends and loved ones grow old anyways, and odds are high that at least a couple of them will predecease you, possibly by decades.

I've always thought the, "You'll outlive anyone you care about!" argument is a weak one against immortality. Sure you will... and then you can go make new ones. It's not like you only ever get one set of friends in life and that's it. Nothing's stopping you from just getting out there and meeting new people.

Why would you feel pain if you're invulnerable?

Pain is the body's sensory response to the destruction of cells. If those cells aren't being destroyed (because invulnerability), what would trigger the pain response?

That's not what the word "immortal" actually means, though.

"Immortal" means "not mortal". And "mortal" only means "subject to death". So, being immortal means you cannot die, but it doesn't necessarily include not aging. It just means you can't die from aging. Nor does it preclude you from losing limbs, or remaining healthy in any way.

So you could literally wind up a withered severed head with no eyes stuck in the bottom of a hole and still be immortal, because you'd still be "alive". Just not very happy about it.

Modern people tend to confuse immortality with invulnerability, but they're not the same thing. And you can get one without the other. Like I already mentioned, one of the Greek myths from 3000+ years ago basically addresses that exact problem:

This is why you need to make one of your other wishes for the power to make other people immortal.

Actually, roll all of that into a single wish, and just wish for the power to grant eternal life to anyone you choose (including yourself), but also with the ability to turn it off as well. That way, you can keep your friends and lovers alive as long as you want, and if they turn against you just make them mortal again, and you can reserve the ability to die yourself if you ever need it (like if you're trapped in a block of concrete or the world ends).
