As you lay eternally unconscious, It takes a 100 years or more in that casket for your body to be reduced to a skeleton.

And it takes maybe 1000 years before that old saying rings true: FROM DUST TO DUST.

Of course there are some variables.

If your casket isn't air tight and water proof, mold will help you decompose faster in that sludge.

Imagine it.

You can't see.

You can't hear

You can't move

You just lay there for all eternity until only a skeleton remains

But that decomposing body is still you ain't it? Or do you believe it;s just an empty vessel and your essence has moved on?.

They didnt actually die though. Their heart stopped beating..which kinda fits a criterion of being dead and used to be a decent definition for death before we knew about brain death and cells and all that.

Just because science says a person is dead by our instruments of measuring whether a person is alive or not doesn't mean there's no hidden consciousness going on after you're dead and buried.

For all we know they're screaming in that casket...we just can't hear them because they are on another level of consciousness.

Yes, but there's also no evidence that there's consciousness going on after death. So if you believe in such a thing, you have to ask yourself why you believe. I think you'll find that most people believe in consciousness after death simply because they want it.
In fact, evidence suggests that consciousness itself is merely the result of different parts of the brain communicating with one another. So it logically follows that without the brain activity after death, you have no consciousness.

You guys who are talking "It'll be an improvement regardless" need to find some humor. Or just spice up the sentence, so you don't depress people and ruin their mood.

You have a better chance of making this life a place you wanna be if you don't push others away by sucking energy out the room. You can still be honest, just don't be so damn dry about it.

There are countless people who aren't you. Do you know what it's like to be those people? No, because you aren't any of those people. You don't have their experience of being alive.

Being dead is the same thing, except you'll be one fewer person.

Just stop thinking about life and consciousness as if it only exists for you. Your death knocks out your consciousness the same way it has done for everybody who's died in the past. Similar to how you don't know what it is to experience being somebody else, death removes that experience for yourself also.

tf?
You won't be alive to experience being dead. So there is no experience of "being dead" and no point wondering what it's like.

You won't have one after death either, so you (your consciousness) will literally not exist any more and won't be capable of fear (or anything else)

The fear of death dies the moment you go braindead. Which is kind of ironic tbh. You spend your life fearing the nothingness after death and then when it actually comes you don't even exist to experience it.

That doesn't stop from it being drastically different than before I was born. I actually enjoy things about this life. The thought of never doing them again isn't a comforting one. I'm not even someone who thinks about death like that. I've become really good at controlled ignorance.
