FF9 was a homage to SNES FF games and not the original ones. People wanted a medieval setting after 7 and 8 and got it

Hmm first starting party members (once you got a full team of permanent members) a theif a knight a black mage and a white mage. Dagger even wore the classic white mage robe in one part. Sounds like final fantasy 1 to me. Or even 3. 5 was the only snes one with job classes that actually took on those looks.

But i dont get your point i said the older titles I didnt specify which older titles.

Honestly if they where gonna keep it the same I wouldnt be willing to drop 60 bucks on it. Id rather them do like 8 and just update the character models (which I realize would be more work for 7 than it was for 8) and call it day selling it for maybe 30 bucks.

But a updated battle system on top of better graphics. Sure I'll give it to i just might wait until all parts are out.

As if they havent gone back to their roots before. FF 9 says hello.

The entire point of FFIX at the time was also as one last nostalgia-fueled hurrah to the older games before the franchise moved on forever. It's why there are constant references to older games in FFIX, while FFX is radically different in most ways.

They could still try to cash in on nostalgia again, but at this point they just put out remakes of old games or "side titles" like FFIV: The After Years or Crisis Core rather than doing it as a main series entry. We're almost certainly never going to get a main series old school turn-based RPG in a simplistic medieval setting again.

Unless the industry and marketplace as a whole radically changes, there will never be motivation for anyone to do so, no matter who is running things.

Again, nostalgia can sell as a niche side title, but they're never going to move it back into the mainstream because pure nostalgia doesn't sell THAT well.

Im not saying it will happen i just think its a bit dumb to think there is 0 chance. Next guy in charge could be some idealistic guy who grew up on older final fantasys and wants to make it big again.

I mean did anyone ask for not one but 2 13 sequels? Apparently dude really into that and was willing to keep pushing it.

They changed the battle systems for no reason other than trying something new. People were still buying the titles that were turn based and would still do so even if they never tried other kinds of battle systems.

Most Dragon Quest fans are fans of old-school RPGs.

FFXII tried to do something different by making combat like an MMO, and you could see the enemies rather than having the battles random.
XIII actually took a step back from this, showing the enemies walking around but still taking you to a separate screen for the battle itself. And the combat in XIII was still kind of turn-based, but in a more dynamic, fast-paced way.
XV went full-on Kingdom Hearts, which works well for Final Fantasy

Yeah i used to think i disliked turn based battle system but when I played 12 I realized it was random battles that I truly disliked. Breaks immersion imo to be walking along and suddenly a large enemy appears. Especially if they get a back attack. How the hell is a iron giant gonna sneak up on someone.

I don't hate turn-based combat but I prefer it when they do something to keep it interesting.

Like Legend of Dragoon having timing-based attacks, or Persona 3's "One More" thing, or even just a bigger emphasis on buffs and debuffs.

I'm glad they're changing VII's combat, because you can get through quite a bit of the original game by literally holding down the circle button.

Yeah I tend to bring that up when people say 15 plays itself just holding down the attack button. Aside from healing ive never had a need to do anything but attack in 7. Think its also the FF I beat at the lowest level. Optional fights aside its one of the easiest entries

They should have kept it then. Sounds better than ruining something for no reason. Same reason why the Lufia 2 remake was trash for DS.

FF XV summons where basically cutscenes. I just hope they dont make them random like XV. I liked XV but absolutely hated that. Still havent seen all the summons
