I don't know how many are still here, but the moment I climbed out of the hole, my roommate came upstairs calling my name. Probably heard me moving around. He didn't go far into my room.
Now I'm just standing perfectly still in the closet, waiting a bit longer.

Also, why do you not want to be around them? Are they just people you dont like? Or new people that you dont want to meet? Or something else?

It's stuff from a long time ago. Me and that guy use to butt heasds pretty regularly. We have, pretty much, all the same friends including my roommate.

It's been so long since me and that guy even talked, so I guess my roommate assumed that I would be mature enough to move past whatever issues we had without needing to bring it up.

You should really install cheap chinese made wifi cameras all over the house and use an app on your phone to check when guest leave, then you can go pee safely.

Why not lock yourself in your bedroom then do what you feel like doing as opposed to hiding in a closet.
You're paying rent and not required to socialise if you don't want to.

You're gonna need to have an excuse ready as to where you were in case your roommate asks when you next see him. In all likelyhood that excuse is gonna be that you were out, in which case your coat should be wet.

I too am quite experienced at this sort of social avoidance behaviour. Sometimes it kind of feels like a sport where I only persist 'staying in my uncomfortable hiding spot' for the sake of not being a quitter and showing my own Truman Show audience how good I am at this.

No, that's textbook anxiety. Talk to someone. A counselor or a doctor. Maturity has little to do with coping mechanisms for anxiety, and by its very nature anxiety can and will be irrational.

I came out when they all left (including my roommate, because he took someone home). So when he got back, I was already sitting in my room chilling.

He was like, "Where the hell were you? Such and such were all here and we did this and that and everyone was wondering where you were, etc."
I just told him that the storm was was making taking the transit home difficult, I decided to walk in the rain a few times, got stuck, phone was about to die so I couldn't answer it, etc. Which sounds like a typical situation I would be in.
