Hot fucking damn I'm excited beyond belief!

It has been almost twenty years since I first outlined The Stormlight Archive, says Sanderson. Back then, I didnt think anyone would be interested in this crazy epic Id devisedand its been so thrilling to see enthusiasm for it grow to such heights over the years. Book four finally gets to one of the foundational scenes I conceived from the beginning. In fact, it might be the very first big scene I imagined, and my favorite in the entire series. A part of me cant believe people are finally going to be able to read it. Less than one year now! Life before death, Radiants.

This guy will have written and released three massive epic fantasy novels plus many "smaller" ones in less than the time it takes old man Martin to do one.

He always pushes himself so hard when he gets close to finishing a book. It's fun to watch his website (which probably needs to be updated).

I assume he'll spend about half of next year editing and revising the book. Then hopefully he'll do The Lost Metal next.

Looking forward to Stormlight 4!

Yep! He said by the time he's done he'll need to know if he'll need to do any big overhaul editing or not--if so, it would have been early 2021. So the path is clear!

We'll also be getting a State of the Sanderson 2019 really soon in the next week or two, get updates on what his writing plans are. Especially with Lost Metal. ._.

Have you given any of his more recent works a shot? I think he's definitely improving as time goes on. Second era Mistborn and Stormlight are really good.

Moar Stormlight is always welcome.

I love Sanderson's world-building, and it's been wonderful to watch him grow as a writer. Some of his early works grate on me kind of heavily now (especially Elantris, but Warbreaker to some extent as well), but his more recent stuff is awesome.

I feel conflicted about his Wheel of Time work, though. I personally enjoyed it, and in fact I think he genuinely left the series better than he found it. But I'm not sure Jordan would have approved of everything he did, yet I know his estate selected Sanderson specifically because of the things he was going to do with the series, and this kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth going in all directions.

I don't think anyone was going to tie-up all the threads that Jordan had when he died, including Jordan. The scope creep was just too much. To that end, I think Sanderson did as good of a job as anyone could have done. I think there were a few characters he never quite got the voice on (Mat) and some plots he straight up forgot until the end (Padan Fain), but it worked out as good as it could.

Note with Stormlight, it's going to be a 10 book series, and when book 5 comes out(probably within 2 years) it's going on hiatus for a few years, though apparently 1-5 and 6-10 will each tell separate story arcs.

I enjoyed his mistborn trilogy, but the other day I was at barnes and noble and saw his section. I dont know what book it was, but it was the length of like 3 or 4 books all put together. It was a small paperback too, so it was just this enormous block of paper. I've never seen a publication that long and i was honestly shocked it was physically possible to construct a paperback with that many pages. I don't think I could read a book that big honestly, especially if it's part of a series.
