This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Mid Fodder for James and Schala.

James McCloud is pretty well-known due to appearing in Star Fox 64 and looks like his son Fox (but cooler), so he will get some votes. But he has an incredibly limited role in the series, mostly just being "Fox's disappeared dad".

Schala has a relatively small role in Chrono Trigger, and will mostly be voted for by dedicated fans of the Chrono series since she has a vital role in the overarching plot of the series and those who have a soft spot for the kind-to-a-fault girl.

I will give Dumbledore Mid Fodder too, but high is possible. He is a very well-known character, but I think opinions on him will be very mixed. Some may see him as a cool old guy and the biggest badass in the Harry Potter universe, others will see him as an irresponsible headmaster and ineffective mentor who constantly put Harry and his other students in danger. I don't think he appeals that much to the site though.

High Fodder for Mother Brain. She is an iconic antagonist and the end boss of a lot of popular Metroid games, so I think she'll make high fodder despite not being much of a character in the true sense.

James McCloud (Star Fox) - Low fodder

Star Fox characters haven't done much lately to earn trust. And if almost-certainly-strongest-star-fox-guy-not-in-smash Peppy is Mid Fodder, I don't see James matching that. Andross or Slippy, okay, if they're at the opposite end of the tier but James should be a step below even them.

Schala (Chrono Trigger) - Mid fodder

Her and Lavos are probably the only non-playable CT characters I see beating Low fodder.

Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter) - High fodder

remember the meme about him right when book 6 came out?

Mother Brain (Metroid) - High fodder

I guess. Recognizable Nintendo main villain from a franchise that's gotten much stronger over time.

I'd be wary about the amount people simply don't care about her, though. Ridley has totally stolen most of her thunder as the Iconic Metroid Antagonist. She's not much more than the cool boss fight at the end of Super Metroid unless you really like Captain N.

Mother Brain: Fodder Line - You might be surprised to realize just how little people actually care about Ridley (hint: there's a reason why Smash did nothing for his strength), and he's still a clear Low Midcarder. Mother Brain will of course be a step down, but the Metroid series counts for a lot around here.

Also, Mother Brain was probably already High Fodder back in Villains, especially if Sephiroth SFF'd Liquid, so why wouldn't she be stronger now.

nominate Catwoman for Re-ranking. I think the reasoning given for putting her at Mid Fodder was that there isn't a definitive design for her, and possible anti-votes based on the terrible Halle Berry version of Selina. I don't think she actually gets anti-voted for that (memeing on the basketball scene might actually help her). And I think her Dark Knight Rises, Arkham and Injustice designs and roles are similar enough to provide consistency for a pic. Add TJF to that and I think she is at least High Fodder.
