I have lots of friends spanning all emergency services and it seems the ambulance dudes do sooooo much, sometimes more than the other guys, but dont get the recognition.

Firemen and police risk their lives, yes. But so do ambulance dudes. My friend was telling me about when a man killed his mother and called it in. Sure he called it in himself, and was peaceful when they arrived. But he couldve also had flipped out.

Ambulance drivers/companies are predatory and while things have gotten better, it can still cost you as much as $3000 for a short ride in an ambulance.

In CA it was especially bad with ambulance rides costing $5-$10k in some situations and the worst part is there was no way to know in advance how much they would charge. A simple trip to the hospital/ER could put you 20k in debt, and because of the way they bill (they take their time) someone can end up with multiple trips before they see the price.

There was a ton of articles on it a few years ago and things have gotten a bit better, but yeah, I still would not applaud them in any way.

No they don't. While they don't see some of the worst stuff in my area like they'd see if they worked in a major city, it's still stressful and they have to deal with some awful things.

3 years ago, a truck was carrying a full load of cars to deliver to a dealership when it came loose and hit a van full of kids and a few adults. 6 kids and 2 adults were killed (1 adult survived). Quite a few of the first responders retired or changed jobs after that scene

I think most NHS workers don't get appreciated enough over here. I guess some folk take it for granted and/or are generally selfish.
