As of writing this, that is what todays poll is, what do you do if you get to a part in the game and your stuck?. I picked the answer "go online and read walkthroughs or watch videos on the game to see where i am going wrong".

One answer said "give up, stop playing, uninstall the game". Who out there does that before at least doing the answer i said?. Who throws in the towel that quickly and easily?. Going online and having a look at walkthroughs and videos certainly helped me when it came to fighting boss characters in Gears of War games.

But there have been times though, when going online did not help, and no matter how many times i tried, i could not get part that bit. Its a shame that games dont have actual cheats anymore, like infinite health ect, just to help you get past that part your stuck on, then when you have, you deactivate the cheat, and carry on as normal.

Games where i gave up on them totally, because of a very difficult bit, are

Prison Break - There is a moment in the game where you out in a courtyard at night, and you have to pick a lock very quickly to get inside a building, before the guard walks up to that building and catches you

one of the latest Doom games - It might have been the latest Doom game, i dont remember. But there was a part on there i just could not get past, without dying all the time.

The very first Metro game - Theres a part where your on the earths surface, out in the snow, and theres just too many enemies to deal with, that you keep dying

lords of the fallen - The very end boss in the game, could not defeat him

I've seen many people do that. Or some that stop playing for a while before remembering why they quit. Then removing the game for more space. Sometimes, it's also done because if they get on something like that, they probably won't like how the rest of the game goes. Or if they get stuck because of a glitch, it can make it not fun, anymore. Some people get stuck because they'll need to have a grind-fest to move forward, and don't want that, or it's not fun for them...

As you said, there are also times when you can't find the info you need. Whether it's an obscure game (or too obscure for walkthroughs), or people didn't find it as hard as you, or people haven't found it yet (Though unlikely)...

I'm sure I have quit games. Usually not because of not knowing what to do. But normally because I just can't do it...

I also remember this game that a lot of people quit after the first boss because it was difficult. In the end, it wasn't that hard, but they never explained in the game how to fight it. That was Resonance of Fate. It's a great game after that part.

Another game I heard people quit early on (or restart) was XCX. There was a character quest early on that you receive from Lin. Many people got stuck because they couldn't find the items. And you can't take any other character quest or ain quest until you complete it. The thing was, they quit to fast. There was an easy way to get the items. They were suppose to be in the next area where everything was too strong to fight. But you could find them at the beginning of the area and not fight. And it took like 5 minutes of so. But people quit too fast. When they did it later, many figured out they could have easily done it earlier...

in rare cases, I become super determined and force myself to pull through. it takes too much energy to do that though, so it has to be a great game that's worth doing it for.

in most cases, I give up and maybe try again in 5-10 years.

I have a thing where I practically cannot look anything up anytime ever, with some exceptions. Even if I'm ridiculously stuck I don't want to look anything up. Only exception is if I suspect it's a bug or something. Another exception is Minecraft, where you basically need to look everything up since there's no way to find things out in-game.

I've been trying to move away from this a little though, since there are some games I've played through 5+ times over the years, and there are certain parts that I just never figure out. So, eventually, I decide to look up all the stupid things I've missed so I finally know what the heck they are. But usually only after a lot of playthroughs.

Games where i gave up on them totally, because of a very difficult bit, are
my list would be 2-3x longer than this, but I've left out a lot of less important games

Icewind Dale 2: Got halfway the first time; got 80-90% the second time (not including lots of false starts)
Doom 64: one level I just could never get past; no idea what I'm missing there; been dying to try again but I don't have the game
Final Fantasy Tactics: I think it was second to last map
Zelda Majora's Mask: not sure counts, but could never figure anything out in the city with the schedules and time travel and everything. *eventually* made it to the third dungeon, but gave up soon after.
Age of Wonders 2 and 3: even though I love this series (am playing Planetfall right now), I never beat most of them, and only beat AoW 1 once.
Starcraft and Broodwar: only beat these by cheating (was too hard and I wanted to see the story)
Planescape: Torment: only beat by cheating which I mostly regret. was not enjoying the gameplay, and only kind of enjoying the story, so I didn't care at the time.
Diablo 1: too hard relative to the minimal enjoyment
Homeworld: almost beat it but not quite; got too hard
Kerbal Space Program: yeah, thanks to my don't look stuff up rule, this is basically impossible to get anywhere in. I tried and tried, but it's insanely challenging.
Lands of Lore: got to a really bizarre level that made no sense, and then got stuck there. wandered around forever but never found what I was missing.
Golvellius (SMS): made it far, but then could never find what to do next. needed to find the aqua boots or something. tried so many times and never got any further. (this was over 30 years ago).
Majesty: never really got good enough at it to beat the harder levels
Netstorm: game is just insanely hard
Nox: never seem to be able to make it all the way
Painkiller Overdose: very hard, couldn't even do the first level
Puzzle Quest: tried many times to get past an Ogre boss, but could never do it, even with a different class
Warcraft 1: very hard game, partly because of the crap UI
Wing Commander: Privateer: loved this game, but I never quite understood how you're supposed to dodge in this stlye of game, and a part near the end you just can't survive unless you can dodge for a very long time, which I couldn't do
FF Mystic Quest: got stuck missing an item
Soul Blazer: same
Illusion of Gaia: last boss
Ka-blooey: game just gets super hard
King Arthur's World: just gets too hard
Lemmings 1 and 2: same
Paladin's Quest: last boss I think; my sister of all people is the only one I know who beat it
Secret of Evermore: last boss
Shadowrun: some dragon boss was impossible; not sure what I was supposed to do
Soldier's of Fortune: game is just too hard
Super Punch-Out: game just gets too hard
7th Saga: game is just too hard
Uncharted Waters 1: I beat 2, but not this. In recent times, I played the heck out of it and basically mastered the game, but it just would never end, so now I'm not even sure if you *can* beat it, but I think you can...
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn: This game's normal is the previous game's hard; I gave up.
Mega Man 9: got stuck on one of the last levels

Games I could never beat due to crashing:
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Grim Fandango

The one time I gave on a game because I got stuck was Final Fantasy VII. I got in a fight literally two steps before a safe point and no matter what I couldnt beat the enemies there. It happened every time I got to that spot.

I usually look up how to beat it in a guide if I'm stuck. I don't give up unless it's impossible or borderline impossible (ghosts and goblins for the NES) or broken/glitched and can't be beat

Depends. Games like puzzlers I can come back to later and stumble on the answer when trying different things. Otherwise if after enough time it doesn't feel like progress is being made then I'll check online to see if it's a glitch or something I missed. My backlog is too big to be stuck for long amounts of time and I'd rather sacrifice a hurdle or two rather than drop the game.

Then there's awful games that walkthroughs can't help. So in very rare circumstances I'll quit before seeing the end. Hotline Miami was the worst top down shooter. Bloodborne had no bosses that I could find. No More Heroes (played with Move) had terrible collision detection. Somehow I got stuck with a bad save on the recent Secret of Mana on PS4 and didn't want to restart. Oh and the last one I recall for this gen was Evil Within which wasn't the stealth game I wanted, it was a shooter with no ammo to be found.

I tried playing Bloodbourne recently, and dam that game is hard!!!!. I gave up on it very quickly, too hard!!!. Early in the game you have to take on this massive huge executioner type guy, who's got tons of energy, your not that powerfull, cause its early in the game, and you hardly have any room to dodge and evade his attacks.

Evil Within i gave up on before completing aswell, for the same reason too. I think the secret with that game was, build up on your stats first that allow you to carry more ammo, otherwise you get rather far in the game and you run out of ammo, where as you could have collected more, if you built that stat up first. I think with me it happend at the part in the game where i had to take on that box head guy.

Yep, the only problem is dealing with the oddballs who think the rules are cool. (Personally though, I like the rule about not killing people because I wouldnt be good at that anyway.)
