Ill start us off and say its fine. Its a perfectly serviceable game thats marred by its faults more than its elevated by the things it did well. Were gonna need a huge overhaul if Im ever going to pay full price for a Pokmon game again.

It's fine, and I don't understand a lot of the hate.
There is legitimate hate tho, like Y-Comm being garbage and the exploits.
The fact that the game was data mined before it was released (again) is also unacceptable.

i would agree with the first post honestly. at the end and although the flaws are very noticeable they don't make the game too much less fun. i don't think the good stuff justifies the price considering how much they took out or changed for the worse, and sorry but cutting half the pokemon was pointless, especially considering some of the stupid ones left in.

and who the hell wanted one use TMs back? they need shot.

It shows that both Nintendo and GameFreak are not taking software security seriously.
As someone who works on software and network security for a living, not focusing on security of your own IP is foolish, and naive.

Also the SoC they're using should support things like Hardware-Based Black Key encrpytion and and ARM TrustZone. I would be interested to see if they use any of these technologies to actually secure both their firmware and games.
Also a very simple online check to even run the game before release (and proper enforcement of NTP for fucks sakes) would have gone a long way.

What I am saying is that each Switch would have hardware-based encryption keys (all switches have the same keys) and because they are hardware backed are tamper proof. These keys would be used to encrypt the Game ROMs (and also the firmware). In the case where any of the hardware keys were compromised, the system has multiple hardware keys on a rotation, where games released in certain years use certain hardware keys and in other years use different ones.

This stuff is very basic, and is the foundation of secure booting and software execution on ARM devices, just like the Switch.

Now I'm making a third post because (I am very smart). Nintendo is probably using these hardware keys to sign their Switch Firmware, but using some kind of intermediary key for their games. What the hell are they smoking? Or are they not encrypting the entire Game's ROM (or at least parts of the ROM?). Software distributions like this should have some sort of anti-tamper and DRM associated with them so that people wishing to circumnavigate seucrity will not be able to.

I only have a very cursory understanding of hardware and software security tho.

The game wasnt datamined before release because of downloaded copies tho. It was datamined because people in Mexico managed to get physical copies early. Like they always do.

elric - umbreon
eris - espeon
emil - espeon
mammon - flareon
jeremy - jolteon
lysanderoth - leafeon
king dragon - eevee

i rate it 10/10 because of the eevees. i wish i could get a g-max eevee without buying pokemon lets go eevee though

I've played probably three hours of it and explored the wild area a bit but I have no interest in picking it back up. Too barren for what it could've been. If I hadn't gotten it for (nearly) free then I'd be totally fine passing on it entirely.

i liked it until I finished the 8 gyms. The game becomes a total slog after that. Been in the final town for like two weeks, very little interest in actually finishing it because I am so over leveled and it isnt fun to OHKO everything

I have Pokmon Sword but haven't played it (or opened the packaging yet) since I'm want to open something on Christmas.

But from watching live streams, it seems pretty cool and perhaps better than Gen VII.

I like it okay, but after finishing the post-game, the story was really weak. There are hints that it could have been so much better, but everything was crammed together in the end. And the final story with the Legendary wolves was just silly. We got so used to the story being integrated into the main game that to just have it be its own final chapters after the main gameplay is done is just sloppy.

I like how there are less trainer battles, and you can avoid wild pokemon, so if you're skip grinding there's actually some difficulty.

So far it's probably the best pokemon game I've played. The free camera is awesome, the pokemon walking around is immersive. Next game I hope they keep these things and make every area free camera.
