I've normally bought 3DS systems just to play the new pokemon games and sold them weeks later cause I don't have the time to play them and/or the pokemon formula just doesnt do it for me anymore.

Do sword and shield switch it up enough to warrant buying a switch? Guess I could always sell the switch and game if I get bored. But is it even worth doing?

I like the game, but I'd say no. There's a lot for me to do personally, but I think typical players want more stuff to do in the game.

i love the sound direction in it
it's low fi but very layered

the items look cool
lots of pixel art hidden in the game

there are lots of other games

just not as many as the ps4 and xone but there are still exclusives coming to the system

Depends on how much you like past Pokemon games.

Because it basically takes no risks and is just like the older games, all faults included.

If you expected some kind of improvement there is none, Game Freak doesn't know how to make modern AAA games, nor do they care to because they know Pokemon will sell regardless.

Other things to note: You have to pay Nintendo's Online subscription service to use the online features.

The online is in general bad.

GTS is gone, so trading needs both people to be there in person.

Pokemon Home won't be out till next year, which people are suspecting the GTS has been moved to and will cost another subscription service, as nobody is willing to confirm if it's free or not.

I have 90 hours in Sword so far and haven't started shield yet (I plan on doing some more slow-paced runs on Shield).
I think it's only worth it if you like Pokemon or want to battle online.
*I bought a Switch Lite to play this.

The Wild Area is as bland and boring as it looks, and the camera angles are so fucking close during battle (again, its reminiscent of the 3DS titles which makes no sense because the Switch screen is bigger AND you can play this on your TV) that I dont know what they were thinking. How did the GameCube Pokemon games animate its cast better AND have a better camera during battle?

Theres lots of stuff on the switch, but this isnt one of the things that makes it a worthwhile console to have

I bet this was going to be a 3DS game and nintendo was like nope we want the 3ds to DIE we can sell a switch for waaay more and know nostalgic suckers will buy our overrated console for just pokemon!

switch has been an even larger casual cashgrab than the wii

at least the wii/wiiu tried doing new things

the last (and only) unique game on switch is arms and honestly if I couldnt use my switch to play arena of valor and splatoon id sell the damned thing

it doesnt even work as a portable system because of crap battery life and terrible ergonomics

seriously this is the first time I have ever disliked a nintendo console

the wii was the ultimate retro gaming machine (and still is)

the wiiu created some great entirely new franchises

wtf has the switch done aside from jumping on dlc bandwagon and giving us all handcramps?

The 3DS is one of the worst systems ever designed. It has pittiful hardware backing it, including the awful dual-screen AND "3D" features which were completely underutilized, and huge wastes of development effort.

It had a terrible launch, yes, but aside from that the 3ds has much better first party titles than the switch, with half of the switches titles being ports with minor upgrades from the wiiu.

The battery life of even the original 3ds is longer than the switch, its more portable, its ergonomic issues are easily and cheaply fixed, and you still have access to the vast library of ds games and dsi titles previously purchased.

The switch is a casual cash grab that halfheartedly tries to appease longtime nintendo fans while nintendo snubs the 3ds which iirc is still making sales across all of its versions because nintendo board memebers realize they can make more money cutting development costs to a single system as they realize they are losing the battle to win the market of serious gamers interest to sony and microsoft

So what do they do? Try to compete? No. They sell out and are even now trying to cash grab into the cancerous mobile gaming market.

the people getting switches to play indie titles on the go are either hipster casuals or casual casuals who dont have any other way to play them

im sure there are anecdotes but thats the majority of the buyers

people say wii was for casuals because of motion controls when only real gamers took the time to learn how to best utilize them in the games they played

anybody who says they couldnt figure out how to use the wii remote is instantly a casual in my eyes

they tried to bring over the gimmick to switch but its too hard for casuals to learn so aside from a few games (arms is a hardcore game that offers better control if you learn to use motion controls) all the tech that makes joycon so effing expensive never gets used

the switch had loads of potential and instead they went the lazy sellout direction for fear their new target audience (casuals) will drop it like they did the switch.

the 3ds has a resolution that cell phones had back in 1999.

it's garbage, everything is pixelated.

once you play the computer in arms or other players you're going to switch back to holding the controller

The irony is that someone at Nintendo thought the Wii U and the 3DS were good ideas.
And apparently GameFreak did not like the idea of a Switch (which is massively successful unlike the Wii U and 3DS).
Reality is just boned.
I tell you tho, the Switch Lite is fucking amazballs. It is better than the PSP. Nintendo finally was able to make a system better than what Sony did 15 years ago. Someone just needs an easy way to hack the Switch Lite (or hack it period), and it will be finally better than the PSP.

BTW: The Switch has sold 41m units in 2 years compared to the 3DS which sold 75m units in 8 years.

most casuals just think this is too hard im going to use what I know instead of learning to adapt and improve and are never able to reach the full skill ceiling of the game because of it

I feel like the campaign kinda sucks and the overworld feels really cramped and tiny. Not much to explore.

I do like the faster leveling and breeding. It's cool you can see the Pokemon walking around and stuff, but since the world is so tiny and the camera is fixed, it isn't very immersive.

Since I like Pokemon conceptually, I do enjoy the game. I can see these games being incredible in future iterations, it's just not quite there yet.

People think they sound smart when they use any casuals bad rhetoric, but they always sound pompous.

I didn't get a Switch to play indie titles on the go, but I have made a deliberate choice to buy a number of indie titles on the Switch instead of the PC purely because of the portability. Your view on this matter seems to be very narrow and egocentric.

I would say no. They removed few things and limited the Pokdex. The game looks incomplete in some way. By the way, wrong forum, this is for the Poll of the day.
