I find cats to be much better. I feel they are less needy and don't feel wary if one runs up to me. Dogs on the other hand are unpredictable and although I do like dogs I like cats much more.

Cats look adorable and petting them is relaxing but at the same time they kill at least one other animal every day, some cats kill more then others but they all do it and it's not even for food.
They are not loyal to their owner out of respect and love but because of a roof and food.
Owners get scratched by their cats all the time, a friend of mine is always covered in scratches and his cats are pretty sweet compared to most, they don't necessarily do it on purpose but they just don't care that much that their claws are still out when you interact with them.
I could go on and on about why cats aren't as good of a pet as a dog.

Its not their fault they are not inherently malicious it's just that they are solitairy creatures by nature and a a dog is a pack animal.
Their brains are wired differently, a dog needs his familly to function and survive but a cat doesn't.

I don't hate cats by the way, I would never get one but I still like them ,these are just the facts.

I don't hate cats by the way, I would never get one but I still like them ,these are just the facts.

  1. Keep your cat indoors and they won't. This is purely on the owner. We don't blame dogs when they aren't leashed, we blame the owners. Same thing applies to cats.
  2. This is patently false, as numerous studies have shown.
  3. And dogs KILL and MAIM people. Cat scratching people is a failure of owners, not the animals themselves; clip or cover their claws or you have no right to complain because it was the OWNER'S choice not to take measures to prevent *GASP* teeny tiny scratches. The horror.
  4. No, they are not. Cats are social animals and live in groups and formulate complex dynamics; they just hunt alone. However, unlike dogs, which are apex pack predators, cats are both predator and prey (of dogs, fairly regularly, btw). As a result, cats tend to be more wary and need spaces where they can feel safe and in control.
Nice "facts." Btw, it may not have occured to you since you clearly haven't bothered to think much about it in general, but cats appear less affectionate than dogs to you because you don't understand cat body language. Cats do not have the level of facial expression that dogs do and therefore do not express in the same way. They have been known to attack humans assailing their owners and die shortly after their owners do, something one also sees in dogs. But whereas dog affection is treated as a given, people will do anything to rationalize cat behavior as being anything other than affection.
Doesn't matter. Their very brain chemistry and activity proves you wrong as outlined in various studies. Most cats view their owners as parental figures, as demonstrated by their social behaviors.

Cats may be social animals. But it seems to take them much longer to get use to another cat of both cats are not kittens... But dogs seem to take much much less time to let someone else in the pack... including cats...

OOOooooo, I'm very PASSIONATE about this topic!!!!!

Personally, I'm a cat person.

I love ALL animals, but cats make the best domesticated pet for all lifestyles.

Dogs are only good if you have a lot of free time (or a significant other who is home when you are at work) and a big yard (preferably a farm).

Owning a dog in any other situation is cruel in my opinion. Tiny ass apartment? Big city where they can't run? You work 12 hours a day and leave it alone to just whine and stare out the window and wait at the door for you? Yeah. Why the fuck do you even have a dog? Honestly?

Generally, dogs are VERY needy. They get separation anxiety very easily. They can destroy things out of spite because you chose to go to dinner AND a movie and were gone for 3 hours. They'll eat your couch just because you "frustrated" them.

Pessimistic generalizations? Sure. And cats can destroy things, too. But generally? Yeah. Dogs suck when it comes to this.

Cats are so chill. Sleep 90% of the day. Smaller animals. Smaller carbon footprint. Eat less. Show a newborn kitten the litterbox ONCE, and they will go there every day for the rest of their life (generally). You could leave for 3 straight days, and you just make sure they have enough water and food...and they're good.

Cats are also more agile. Flexible spines prevent them from getting all the health problems dogs are prone to. Allowing them to live longer and healthier lives.

Cats also drink the souls of babies. Which is extremely badass.

I like doggos fine. At least ones that aren't poorly trained and out of control. My family had dogs when I was little. I like to pat a dog when I get a chance. But for very similar reasons to why I don't want kids, I don't want to ever own a dog. Too much work and it would be unfair to a dog to not get walked because sometimes I literally can't.

Now cats are practically my identity. I always was and always will be a crazy cat lady. I adore them to no end. I consider mine my children and I don't give a damn what anyone thinks. If I had a Fallout style perk, it would be Pussy Magnet because cats are drawn to me too. And I seem to influence cats to be much more vocal than they would have been otherwise. Plus of course cats are probably THE easiest mammal to keep as a pet, since they mostly take care of themselves. And while every cat is different, I've never had a cat that wasn't social with me. And I have a couple silly babies who are so social that they will physically force me to hold them in my arms and give them kisses while they purr. I also have a lot of cats that get along with each other really well. When we adopted our four magical little oranges, they made two of my adult cats part of their litter and that's just how it is. One of them is a gentle giant who was terrified of ALL living things other than me, and their love pulled him out of his shell.

Yeah. Kitties.

And to reiterate people correcting uninformed opinions about cats...

No, good cats don't "Act like dogs". They act like cats. Cats have a huge variety of personalities, like people. But I have had cat after cat after cat that are super loyal and play fetch and crap. Dogs don't own that.

It's been scientifically proven in MANY different ways that cats love their owners. Like it's a fact. Period.

You also can't judge pet cats by the behavior of feral cats. Cats who are kept and loved by humans are in a state of extended kittenhood. Again, a scientific fact. So they are pretty much manbabies who get to be kids forever. (And cats who are RAISED by humans are a whole different animal. Most ridiculous things that exist.)

You also can't judge the personality of cats at all if you don't spend a lot of time around them, both individually and in general. Most cats are essentially introverts. Just like introverts, most cats aren't going to run up and give strangers great big hugs. (Although some will, silly things.) And yes, cat body language is SO MUCH MORE complicated than dog body language. Especially since the same thing from one cat could mean the opposite from another cat. Like the classic "cats wag their tails when they're mad"... But some wag their tails when they're happy.

With a lot of dogs you can be their best friend in about five seconds, cats just take longer. It's a lot like developing a relationship with another human. But of course they're not human and sometimes you're just left confused.

Sure I get scratched a lot, but oh well. As someone said, I could prevent it, but I don't. But literally no one has ever been mauled to death by a domesticated cat.

It's also been proven time and again that, even with constantly available food, cats miss their owners when they're gone. And that they can prefer their owners to food a lot of the time.

Basically people who assume cats are loveless assholes have opinions just as uninformed as those of racists. :P

I have a friend who has a pig that plays fetch with the dogs. I think the Donkey does, as well...

Also, scientist proved that cats know their name (though they said they might associate their name with reward or discipline). And can usually tell their owners voice from another persons. The reason they dont always respond is that they just dont care most of the time. Haha. Some will. But not all of them...
