To be clear I feel bad for the people losing their jobs. But I'm glad the company itself is doing so poorly.

The one thing halliburton does right is train people. The phrase halliburton trains the oilfield is tossed around a lot and is accurate. It is a lot of people's first oilfield job because of their high turnover rate. They always need people because they treat their people like shit.

If the people laid off want to stay in the industry they will find plenty of opportunities at companies that will actually treat them like human beings.

For perspective halliburton was my first grown up job. In the lab. Loved my team and my boss. Learned a hell of a lot both about actual science and also the real world.

But the company as a whole is terrible. My boss worked there 30 years because they have great benefits and pay. But he hated the company itself the whole time he worked for them. He stuck around because he loved the work and his team.

You don't want to right now.

Wait like a year or two. I think they are doing some back channel with an unknown entity where whatever entity is will acquire halliburton.

Back when I was getting laid off halli was attempting to do a hostile takeover acquisition of Baker Hughes. Government put a stop to that do to the combo company would have monopolized the industry. Schlumberger is still the industry leader, but they wouldn't have even been able to compete combined company.

But now shoe on other foot. Halliburton needs to be bought out to survive. So their best option is to reach out to potential buyers and say "we're for sale, please buy us"

But yes I legit could help you get a job with them when that time comes. I have some pretty important contacts.

Would probably have to work in Williston though. The Bakken is really the only still profitable basin at this point.

Permian is pretending to be in good shape still. But rumor is that big layoffs are coming to Texas soon. If I was working down there I'd be pretty nervous.

Actually Colorado still in good shape too. So that would also be an option. I don't have contacts there directly, but I have contacts that would probably have contacts there.

That's where I would recommend. If possible do not go to Williston. It's the armpit and or butthole of the oilfield. Worst of the worst. If you guys are ever bored look up some of the crazy crime stories about the town.

One that still sticks with me is a guy getting beaten to death right in front of the Heartbreakers strip club. Plenty of people watching. Could have stopped it. No one did.

Higher rent rates than NYC.

Friend has a 1 bed 1 bath. Nice but not that nice. 1000 per month. Anywhere else in ND that would be a luxury apartment.

Not anymore unless you work like a bajillion hours per week. But still pretty reasonable that most field workers break over 100k per year.
