American menus have lots of pages and lots of items so there's not going to be a picture with every item. Also Americans are obsessed with choices. In southeast Asia you just order eggs fried, but in America you order eggs over easy, over medium, over hard, etc etc. Foreigners go blank when you ask them "how would you like your eggs?"

Yup, you should watch foreigners shopping at Walmart for the first time on Youtube, it's overwhelming.

I live in China, outside of somewhere like Shanghai, it is near impossible to order food without speak Chinese. Some places will have pictures but it isn't always clear what the ingredients are. Smaller restaurants however are completely impossible without the use of a translation app.

It is when they don't even know they have a choice and don't even have a translatable word for those choices. Take a Filipino cheese shopping in America and they'll be surprised to know there's all kinds of white cheeses. They just know there's a yellow cheese and a white cheese and they don't even know the name of a white cheese.
