As a stand-alone movie it's not horrendously bad (but it's not good.)

Coming in after the excellent legacy of Ron Perlman's Hellboy movies, though? It's a travesty.

I knew it was going to suck when the tagline was "Legendary AF." It went too edgy.

Naturally, a demonic character like Hellboy is going to seem like a hot topic edgelord, but in the good movies, he's actually a pretty sensitive person who likes cats and has girlfriend troubles, with one of his defining character traits being that he wants to be recognized and well-liked for his work saving the world. He's not some dark, brooding asshole. He just has a temper and some wisecracking tendencies.

I thought he wanted to do it but they wouldn't let him

He had some scheduling issues at first (remember he was originally supposed to be the guy directing The Hobbit) and by the time it finally came to looking into it seriously no one really wanted to pony up the money for it.
